My post to those who want to abandon the people and issues of our party.
Edited on Fri Nov-05-04 08:20 AM by SarahBelle
(I wanted to post this outside the Lounge, but it'll end up getting lost, buried, and forgotten in GD.)

Have some gonads! We got almost 50% of the vote. Heck, if fraud is taken in account, we could have gotten just over. What does the Democratic party stand for? We stand for inclusiveness of genders, races, religions, and sexual orientation. We stand for choice. We stand for health care. We stand for a living wage. We stand for conservation and keeping our environment safe. WE are the ones that stand for fiscal responsibility. We provide job growth.

Those who voted for Bush were fooled (except for those super rich types that are selfish) and it's up to us to keep pumping out our message. Yes, it's an uphill battle. Yes, the media has a financial interest in promoting the conservative (really Neo-Con) agenda, but this is our country. This is what we stand for.

There's a divide and conquer mentality going on in other forums. Caving in. The Republicans wouldn't do this if they lost and we must not either.

Remain strong and remain vigilant. THAT is our only choice!

edit:
I posted it elsewhere too. It was too important.

1. Thank you!!
Yes, that's exactly the point. Watering down our message to garner some dubious "win" is pointless if we abandon the principles that distinguish us from the other party.

I'd rather belong to a unified Opposition party than to one that merely shadows the more popular positions of the party in power. That tactic effectively reduces our country to a one-party system, no better than any other totalitarian government.

2. Nothing but disruptors, SB. And they did more to STRENGTHEN our
resolve than to tear it down.

I may be bruised, but I'm ready to take them on again.

And my sense of humor is intact, thank God.

4. I agree -- disruptors.
There was even a pattern to a lot of the postings. And I doubly agree that it only strengthened us. As the Gateful Dead sang, "We will survive!"

3. You're absolutely right!
The repubs didn't get where they are today by caving in when they lost in '64, '76, '92, and '96. They may have the advantage today, but it won't last as long as we stay focused. Last night I was thinking that the first thing that we do is GET RID OF ANY E-VOTING MACHINE THAT DOES NOT PROVIDE AN AUDIT-ABLE PAPER TRAIL. How? Write to your congressperson and to both of your senators. Do NOT say that we Democrats were robbed, but impress on these people that election fraud is now more possible than ever, and that now THEIR re-election may be seriously in doubt. Appeal to their OWN job security! Tell them that the only way we can be sure of getting the candidates we vote for is if there is a way to conduct a legitimate recount. If we put enough pressure on the people we "elect", perhaps we can change this for the '06 election.

5. We must stand strong
The "morals and values" Bush* voters have shown that they have neither. Facts don't matter to them. They're morally bankrupt and intellectually deficient.

Fear, hate, and bigotry have defeated hope, love, and compassion.

We may get a break when the neo-cons and religionists find that they don't like sharing the hell to which they'd really like to condemn us.
