Taking solace in Alachua County, FL
Edited on Fri Nov-05-04 09:06 AM by jab105
Just comparing this election with that of 2000 and I'm proud to say it looks like I did my part.

2000:
Gore Bush Buchanan Nader Other County
47365 34124 263 3226 751 ALACHUA
Source: http://shazam.econ.ubc.ca/intro/votes.htm
13241
So in 2000 Gore got 55.2% of the vote, so clearly our county is 'blue'. The vote differential between Bush and Gore was Gore +13241.

But check out the results for 2004:

REP (Bush) REP 47615 42.89%
DEM (Kerry) DEM 62348 56.16%
CPF (Peroutka) CPF 61 0.05%
LIB (Badnarik) LIB 362 0.33%
GRE (Cobb) GRE 52 0.05%
SWP (Harris) SWP 14 0.01%
SPF (Brown) SPF 13 0.01%
REF (Nader) REF 557 0.50%
Source:
http://elections.alachua.fl.us/results.html

So in 2004 Kerry got 56.2% of the vote...1% higher than Gore in 2000. The important number, the vote differential between Bush and Kerry this time was +14733, meaning a net gain of 1492 votes for Kerry.

I feel a little better now...at least about our county :)

3. It is a very lovely community
Home of Florida State University and the Gators. The people are mostly professionals, most seem to live the good life, schools good, lots of activities for kids, the people are very family orientated. Which shows we do not need to change our values, what we need to do is change the media. The media has defined us by using distortion, lies and misinformation.

5. No, NO, NO!!
Gainesville is home to the University of Florida. FSU is in Tallahassee, where JEB currently resides. Gainesville is a FAR better place.
