1. Because the damn gold rush lured my great-great
grandfather out of those hills to California, the Civil War got my great grandfather back east, the depression moved my grandfather all around to find work and so

I live in NYC now instead of the hills where I belong.

Sorry.

11. I'm still in shock
I have a distant cousin that lives in Hendersonville. It must be difficult for you to find someone open enough to talk to.

You need to move to a big city where everyones welcome. I would ask you to go to see Chucky with me but I am miles away from you. I usually go out alone or I have to hook up with my friends that drink and I don't want to do that.

12. Awesome!
My aunt keeps me pretty sane (thank God!), we're both really politically involved and we both work at the same place (freeper heaven) so it's nice to talk to her.

Miles away? What? Miles aren't that bad. :)

13. In my redneck SE Ohio youth, I grew so sick of the movies
Porky's
Coal Miner's Daughter
Smokey and the Bandit
Any Which Way You Can
Tank
Rambo, First Blood 2
Red Dawn

These movies played the local theater for, like, a year each.

17. Well, that was the late 70's/early 80's
when rural theaters waited forever for movies. We didn't see Star Wars until the fall of 1977, a full six months after it came out.

Porky's was probably the worst offender. It played for, I think, six full months. Lines round the block. And I was apparently the only Jacksonian who didn't see it. When I finally caught a bit of it on HBO years later, and reflected on my town's thrall for it, well, let's just say I wasn't all that surprised Wednesday morning.
