I have a mice infestation |
|
they're getting into the house and leaving little poops all over the place. They've chewed through plastic wrap and gotten into food, they chewed into the bread. Ugh. :-(

In fact my cats will do it for a very, very small fee ;-)

4. Yes, a cat. I have a cat that kills mice faster than a quick moderator |
|
on a slow freeper. Last time all that was left were the mouse's hindquarters, left for us as a gift. (say, I wonder what the mods do with the freepers to dispose of them).
We're going to start making little marks on the baseboard for her.

6. We have two cats and it hasn't helped in our case. |
|
Though I haven't seen any new poops in awhile. It's just I would have thought the cats would have triumphantly presented the mouse corpse if they had caught it.

10. I can give you a cat! |
|
His name is Pyewackett, and he is a great hunter...
Sadly he abuses our other cats and we'd like to find a place for him where he is the only one.

11. I had mice over the winter |
|
The three cats dispatched about 15 of them, even though none of the three have front claws. I think they eventually bored of it though becuase we started seeing them again and had to get some traps. We got the no-kill traps and would just toss the mice out the back of our property when one was caught. Haven't seen one in a few months.

12. Plug holes around pipes under the sinks |
|
with Aluminum foil. If you must use a trap use either a live catch trap (although the mice can still get killed) or the old fashioned spring trap. Never use glue-traps, they are the most inhumane way to kill them. Unless you are into watching small rodents gnaw off their tiny feet in an attempt to escape. The problem with poisons is that the mice will die somewhere in your house and the smell is awful. Plus if you have children or pets it can be dangerous. Most people don't like having to kill them, but sometimes there is no other way.

13. I've always had good results with steel wool |
|
Cheaper (I think it is...) and more durable. Plus its got some resiliance. Foil just crushes, the steel wool is .. scrunchy.

and it helps get rid of them by messing up their insides.

15. My cat will pay you if you let him do the job |

and he is very good at it. Sometimes he brings them to me while I am watching TV, parades around the room and drops one at my feet, purring all the while, "Look at me, I am the king of cats."

We have an unheated and closed off upper floor of our home -- which was infested with mice. NO mice on the main floor where our 13 yr old cat lives. When I returned from being away to somewhere where it is hot in the winter I immediately opened the door to the "attic" -- and Mr. T proceeded to demolish the mouse population in short order.
It is cold again and the door to the attic was closed -- I am here and heard the damn mouse again -- I opened the door and in less than 5 minutes the mouse was dead. Mr. T is now training Huggy how to hunt mice.
Mr. T taught himself how to hunt and he started late -- but he is now probably one of the best mousers we have ever had.
There is a theory that just the scent of a cat will frighten off the mice -- this theory has not be tested. But I do know that no mouse live on the main floor of this old farm house.
Oh ferrets also have a good reputation for being good mousers.
