So, how are we coping? I'm compulsively planting things. |
|
Dozens of tulip bulbs. And pink and white daffodil bulbs. Two peony plants that I hope & pray will thrive (ever smelled one?). Poppies. A night-bloomnig jasmine bush on my bedroom's balcony.
It's all I can think to do this week, and especially so with the flower bulbs and peony tubers--there's something symbolic about that initial quiet dormancy, and then hopefully....in a few months...wildly abundant new life and, almost as important, a little beauty.
I didn't even realize I'd become rather obsessed until my husband greeted me yesterday evening by saying "more bulbs? MORE bulbs??"
So, we do what we have to do.
Anybody else find a unique way to cope this week?

I don't like running very much, but it was either than or start smoking again.

4. I was baking (earlier thread) now I'm sewing, for my business. |
|
When I get some stock ready and take pictures, I'll do a major vanity post and give out the website to my business.
I design and make handbags. During the run up to the election I had all but quit sewing. I've made four bags in the last three days. This is the good news.
The bad news -- s**t...my husband actually beat me at Scrabble. This being a first, he's taking out full page ads in the local newspapers, not to mention that he'll be wearing a t-shirt with the score to my family's Christmas party. I'm going to claim PEAD... Post Election Attention Deficit. Think it will work?
Peace.

14. I'm starting to think you're my evil twin |
|
You come from Cal and move to Vt. I come from Vt. and move to Cal.
I've been baking up a storm and today I was looking at a quilting project I thought I might get back to.
And you always beat your hubby at Scrabble - I am the game queen around here and Friday night is game night. Now I'm a little afraid to play because if hubby wins, he'll be impossible to live with.
But I like your excuse. Sure sounds plausible to me! :hi:

I've been in a 2 day seminar on physical impairment led by AMA physicians. I could sum it up for you in one sentence: "Fuck the disabled since they aren't the productive members of society anyway."

I hope Misunderestimator's coming for a visit muy pronto. You need some light in all that darkness. :-(
I'll send some good thoughts your way while I'm planting the bulbs this weekend.

12. Well, fellow Aggie....ever looked into xeriscaping? |
|
If you do it right, you'll have very little lawn maintenance to do in the future! Or are you one of those Texans like my late uncle, whose primary source of pride was his manicured lawn? :7

13. Xeriscaping is definitely an option! |
|
At least for the front yard. I'd like to have grass out back, so my parents won't get mad after giving me a lawnmower.

It raises those endorphins, and I need all of those I can get facing another 4 years of chimpy. I'd been slacking off, and I had hit the extra Halloween candy pretty hard on election night.

18. I have also been planting bulbs |
|
I planted tulips, daffodils,crocus,muscari,hyacinths & daylilies.
Plus I am preparing the beds for next year's veggies & herbs. It will be my version of the victory garden. The more veggies & herbs I can grow, the less money I will be spending in the repuke loving grocery stores.

19. I just signed up for a plot in our community's organic garden. |
|
I've got 15'x15' to do with as I wish, and I'm going to try to make the best of it for a full 12 months (I live in California, which makes it easy to grow stuff year-round).
Fun stuff...

I wish I could grow stuff 12 year round. I will have to grow excess in the summer to can & freeze for the winter.
I hope to build a greenhouse one day so I can garden year round.
