discuss the GD thread "my name is" here |
|
1. Is that not one of the best DU threads ever?
2. Did you "out" yourself?
3. Isnt it weird puting a name to some of the handles? I think we should all be able to pick our own names in real life
4. A DUer from my past "real life" has recognized me. has this hppened to anyone else
5. the thread count is 700-something, how many names I wonder?

1 - Yes.
2 - Yes, and so did my wife.
3 - We've shown that we're not afraid, that we don't have to hide behind our user names. I actually DID pick my own name when I used to be a DJ - I was "Wayne Edwards".
4 - Don't know - have to go back thru the thread.
5 - More than 500, I would guess.

I have read them all. I love that thread... I was so excited to read about people and know there were more out there that felt like I did! I wish I could show everyone this list, it is just amazing. lets kick this thread again! Who knows maybe we will get an actual voter count since that states can't seem to handle it! lol http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x2587059

11. I don't know what to say. |
|
1. I am pretty fond of it.
2. Yes. I kinda started it.
3. I don't know. Some of the names don't go with the aliases. I love the variety of names and ethnic origins. It is America.
4. Not yet.
5. I answered every one of the first 100, then I answered about every tenth one. Now I just reply to every 50th post or so. I bet there are at least 500 individual names. I too hope it keeps growing until Democrats proudly retake our country.

BTW, did you know in the movie Spartacus, the "I'm Spartacus" scene was a metaphor for McCartyism and Hollywood blacklists? The things you learn on NPR....

Several people have referred to that scene as an analogy to the post. I am unbelievably flattered and humbled by the response. Thanks.

I'll admit here and now, I'm too frightened in this present day atmosphere to tell people my name. I have too much to lose. Not that the courageous men and women who spoke have less, I'm just explaining why I didn't.
That thread just about makes up for our loss. That's the kind of people in this party, in this nation. That took courage. I'm proud to be among you, and for now, I ask you to forgive me for not joining you. I thought about it.
Bush is never going to have that without paying for it. Sitting in a chair doesn't mean you're worthy of it.
I worry for all of us.
He isn't, and never will be my president.
You guys were terrific.
Heros and heroines haven't died out. You are the real patriots. Hope may have gotten held up at the turnstile, but you reflect that it's here anyway.

I really am afraid to out myself, sad to say, because when they start rounding people up, I don't stand a chance based on what people IRL know about me.
It's great to see so many people who are not afraid.

But I certainly salute the people participating. And it does seem to be a catharsis.
