90,000+ so I doubt they would take me seriously and we have a Democratic mayor, along with a democratic town council...but maybe when I graduate I'll take a run at town council. Getting on our town council is a pretty good stepping stone to statewide NJ politics

for the state of NJ all you have to be is over 21 (I'll be that in 4 months) and a resident of the state for at least 2 years (got that one in the bag). Hey I could run against douchebag Bill Baroni of the 14th district...he was the guy who said about a mother who lost her son in Iraq "she ought to find something better to do with her time" I would really like to kick this guy's ass!

Let's see, rub the Litmus Paper on me...
Filed Chapter Seven 4 years ago.
Had a house forclosed on (see above)
Known to hit a bottle pretty heavily (stopped drinking 6 years ago. No Jeebus, no Billy Graham, no "12 Steps", just lost interest in it)
Been married twice, slept with a lot of women I didn't marry.
Tried quite a few controlled substances, don't reget any of them. In fact, I'd like to get some good Blotter again. That was fun back in 10th grade...
No military service, so I am less qualified than an AWOL frat boy to "lead" our troops.
Oh, did I mention I'm an Atheist, and I'd abolish the "National Prayer Breakfast"?
Probably some photos of me floating around in "compromising positions"...
Sound like a real asset to the Party, don't I?

But unfortunately, I've got a police record that would preclude me from running even as a republican candidate. :(

Mr Belle is a determined man, so I'd suspect in another 10 years, if that's what he wants, that's what will be. He's now interviewing for the position of cute and charming wife as I have abdicated my duties. He's a Democrat and would do an excellent job. I'm just bitter and cranky. :7
I'd rather do behind the scenes stuff to affect change.

I'm going to try to run for something in '06. I'll be 24.

It's definitely not my primary ambition in life, but given the right circumstances I would do it. When we finally settle down in a some small community, I would like to be politically involved, maybe be on the school board or some thing.

If nominated, I would not run. If elected, I would not serve. I am very deeply introverted; much too much so to maintain my sanity as a politician. I am not outgoing, I have no charm, and I do not like people. I would sooner lower myself slowly into a vat of boiling oil.

34. thinking vaguely about running for governor of PA |
|
way, way off into the distant future. Once I make a name for myself and accomplish something with my life.
I would probably run on a third party ticket like the Independence party and have a platform that is fiscally responsible, economically moderate-conservative, and socially libertarian. I believe strongly in personal freedoms and creating jobs instead of handouts for poor people. My support of gun rights and free enterprise would co-exist peacefully with my support for progressive simpler taxation and providing affordable health care for all. My views are somewhat similar to the former governor of Vermont, Howard Dean.
For the record, what today's Republicans call "free enterprise" is an Orwellian term for cronyism, corporate socialism, and greed. A free market encourages competition and American GOODS should go to China, not our jobs.
I like Ed Rendell so I wouldn't try to unseat him or any other good governor. But I may strongly consider running on the Republican ticket just to prevent a right-wing lunatic from doing it.

folks have been sort of half-jokingly asking when I'm going to run for something. I'm seriously considering it for the future, though, depending on where I end up getting a job once I finish my Ph.D. (couldn't run here because I'm still a resident of another state while finishing up -- won't change my legal residence because IN makes it impossible to become a resident for tuition purposes no matter how long you've been here). In some areas I'd likely be unelectable, never having been confirmed in any church nor belonging to one; but, given the right circumstances, I think it's definitely do-able.

Of course, I have the same problems a lot of others here have - too young at the moment (in college), not belonging to a church, too "liberal" foremost among them. But I have Bushbots in my Congressional district and now in a Senate seat that would make nice targets if anybody wants to hire me to help advise them.
