Albequerque residents - asking advice... |
|
About real estate in the area -
My folks just (as in two hours ago) sold their Seattle home (to a guy and his wife who want to restore it as well as remodel it! Yeah!). Lathe and Plaster walls, hardwood floors, original glazed windows, and a turn of the century pantry "ice chest" can be a selling point to the dedicated restoration fanatic.
They are going to go to Albequerque to look for a new home in a week or so; they are looking to settle in the area around U of NM, Kirkland AFB, and the hospitals (the hospital nearness is a necessity, Dad's had heart surgery recently). Mom said they would like to buy in the Nob Hill, Altura Park, Ridgecrest or Siesta Hills area, a single story 2/3 bedroom house (a non-fixer with around 1900 sq ft and a good sized yard for gardens is preferable)in an established neighborhood where they can take walks, close to public transit, shops, etc. They're hippies at heart, so they are really drawn to the area around the faculty housing that has those large, established trees lining the streets.
Their only current contact in the area is trying to steer them to "communities" - you know, the gated HOA tracts built around golf courses and "recreational parks".
They're looking for something between $180K and $250K. And escrow closes on the 3rd of December, so they want to have a place picked out by then.
If anyone knows of a reliable realitor, or knows something of the areas they're looking at, please post here or PM me...
Thanks
Haele

but lived right across the street from Kirtland AFB, and where I lived is NOT a good neighborhood these days. However, there is housing not too far off around Carlisle Ave or St--can't remember which. I'm just not sure how the crime is in this area nowadays, but there are some older houses (mostly adobe) and heavily tree-lined streets, which is not too far from KAFB, but closer to the U. I grew up in Albuquerque, and I loved it!

Yep, Nob Hill, all the way. That area is GREAT and the real estate is much less expensive than many other cool artsy neighborhood areas in other cities.
