How old were you when 10 pm ceased to be "early?" |
|
My upstairs neighbors, not realizing I'd moved in yet, started a party last night around 10. I was trying to sleep, as I had to be at work at 7 the next morning. (Yes, I became Queen Bitch and nicely asked them to keep it down a bit...they complied, and we had a decent discussion today.)
They are maybe 21 or 22 years old. I am 29. And I'm wondering at what point I stopped seeing 10 p.m. as a reasonable hour to start going out. If I'm out at 10, it's because I've been out since dinnertime. I think maybe graduating college was the line of demarcation for me -- but, then again, I didn't keep particularly late hours during college, either.
How about you?

And I STILL think 10 PM is early... it's all a matter of what you have to do and when you have to get moving in the morning, not age. (I work, online, at night.)

2. I'm 31...and still an ultranight owl. |
|
That may have something to do with finishing my PhD and not going straight into a work situation that required me to see the evil times like 6am - unless I was staying up past 6am - I have done this hundreds of times. I may start work at a hedge fund here in California....then I will have to be in the office by 5am...Maybe I should just continue my ways and stay up all night working and go to the office and catch some zzzzzzzzzzz in the afternoon after trading is done! That way, when I have time off, I can still party like a rock star....yes, I am the type A adrenaline loving work hard/play harder type!

5. 10 is still early for me at 39 |
|
I'll force myself to sleep at 1 am, if it's a work night or I have something planned.
But something clicks at 10 - suddenly I'm not tired - I'm wired! Wide awake and at my most creative.

6. It all depends on if I have a job and what hours I have to work. |
|
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 12:59 AM by babyreblin
If I have a regular day job, I'll probably want to go to bed at around 10pm or 11pm at the latest. Right now I don't have a job, other than being a mother, so I've reverted back to staying up late like I did in college. I don't need as much sleep now as I did when I was going to school or working full time, so I use the extra hours at night as "me time" after my husband and son go to sleep. Of course, I don't go any place. I just read books, read stuff on-line, or hang out here.
BTW, I'm 25.

I'm 31 and it's 2:30 am with no yawns in sight. Night owl by nature I think. Mom tells me she would put me to bed at 8 when I was little and I would stay up in bed, in the dark, talking to my stuffed animals until midnight or later. Sometimes it is great not being the one to ever get tired, even hanging out with younger people I outlast them all! But, other times it gets really old, since my body can be tired, but my mind will not shut down and rest.
4 am is when I start to get worried I might not get any sleep at all.

10. 10:00 on a weekend is not late - midnight is. |
|
Now on a weeknight, 10:00 has been my cutoff for the longest time, as that was the line set by my parents as when "late night" begins.
Now, on weekends, a lot of music shows don't start until 10, and these days it's getting tougher and tougher to get my butt out there.

It does seem as if it's been a while since I started getting in the shower around 9:30 or so to go out for the evening!

who are out there playing that music that most of our friends can no longer stay up late enough to come out and hear. The crowds are definitely getting smaller, but we also attribute that to the fact that a lot of the "youngsters" aren't as into live music as we were. At least around here, they all seem to want to go to places with deejays instead of live bands.

Still.
I do wonder when I transitioned from "hey, meet me at 10:30 and we'll head out" to "let's meet after work, I gotta be in early because I gotta work at 7."
Probably when I started working at 7.

They woke up at 6 am raring to go. They sure were't going to change their ways so I had to.
THen they became teenagers and getting them out of bed in the morning became a challenge.
Now that they are grown and no longer live here, I go to bed at 10:30 and get up at 6:30. I have never been able to sleep in no matter what.

21. I'm 47, and 10pm is not at all late for me on weekends. |
|
Heck, sometimes we're just getting rolling at 10pm. Weeknights are a different story...I have to get up for work at 5:30am, so I'm definitely in jammies and winding down by 10pm Sun-Thu. But that's only because of the ridiculous getting-up time. Heck, I can still pull the occasional all-nighter when I want to. Must be doing something right. ;-)
