computer oddity: Turn off God's Link to the Lost |
|
I repair computers for a living. I had a laptop in and I noticed that the usual Microsoft "turn off computer" link on the login page had been changed to "Turn off God's link to the Lost". This went away after I cleaned it of viri and spyware and did the SP 2 upgrade.
I asked the owners about it this morning when they picked it up and they said it had been that way since they bought it brand new.
It was a Dell laptop.
Has anyone ever seen this before? I haven't researched to see what is involved in changing that link but it doesn't seem like something that MS would want people to fool with too much.
I googled the phrase and got nothing.

1. It could be something being put on there by Dell. |
|
Or a zealot in their install area.

2. Are they connected by broadband? |
|
I've seen computers get infested with crap within minutes of being connected to the internet.

They say an unprotected machine has less than 15 minutes. The owners are on broadband but they do have a DSl router which provides a little bit of firewall protection.
Usually I can find where someone else has had the same problem by searching the internet. The uniqueness of this is what is a little odd.

4. Maybe it was the computer description. |
|
Something you can easily customize by right-clicking on My Computer, going to Properties | Computer Name and typing in a value for "Computer description".
