4. Atticus, Bull Durham (the whole movie), Fried Green Tomatoes
a little TV show in the early 90's called "I'll fly away" when I was in Germany I watched it all the time it reminded me of home.

Fried Green Tomatoes has to be one of the most Southun' movies of all time.

Why is it that the really serious, intelligent shows always get pulled off the air?

Historically. Everyone in the Civil Rights movement. "Ella's Song"
The leaders were impotant, but it never would have happened without the collective will to bring change.

And I think we can find strength in these words today.

I know I do.

Ella's Song

Lyrics and music by Bernice Johnson Reagon
Sung by Sweet Honey in the Rock

We who believe in freedom cannot rest
We who believe in freedom cannot rest until it comes

Until the killing of black men, black mothers' sons
Is as important as the killing of white men, white mothers' sons

That which touches me most is that I had a chance to work with people
Passing on to others that which was passed on to me

To me young people come first, they have the courage where we fail
And if I can but shed some light as they carry us through the gale

The older I get the better I know that the secret of my going on
Is when the reins are in the hands of the young, who dare to run against the storm

Not needing to clutch for power, not needing the light just to shine on me
I need to be one in the number as we stand against tyranny
<snip>

8. The original Cassius Clay
A fiery Kentuckian who served as ambassador to Russia under Lincoln, was an abolitionist, and married an 18 year old at 84. The man was truly amazing in many ways and no one knows this was THE Cassius Clay.

20. Colonel Douglas Mortimer,
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 05:53 PM by KCabotDullesMarxIII
formerly, colonel of a regiment of sharpshooters in the Carolinas.

And even further South, Tuco.... Bang! "If you're gonna shoot, shoot! don't talk!" Unsolicited epitaph for someone he'd just shot, who'd been holding forth about what pleasure he was going to take in shooting Tuco.

Also, Charlie Wrangle. If he's a Southerner!
