Found DU very early on -- just after the Selection when I went to CommonDreams -- they had had sort of an open comments area for people to commiserate, and then referred people here for a more long-term discussion. That's when I got here -- they say they were established Jan 2001, so I musta been in there somewhere.
But I'm sure there were oceans of people out there looking for somewhere to vent, and large rivers ended up here, so I'm sure I was one of hundreds or more to find it about the same time. It was like an oasis...the previous political forums I'd turned to in that time were all the boards that I now realize were populated with hateful Freeper-types. I was a newbie to boards, never having had to turn somewhere anonymous to be able to speak freely about a subject, and had no real interest before. Felt like I was lucky to be at the right place (commondreams) at the right time.
I lurked more than I posted for a while. Got very het up over Asscroft - more posts. Took a long break from posting until recently (and still pretty infrequent) was using the site to check news, mainly. Now I'm here more spreading voter fraud info and tracking problems. (check out this thread -

made me nostalgic, so I waxed on, back to work...
