You know, I don't miss the Sunday talk shows at all. |
|
Hell, let's face it...Schieffer, Stephanopoulous, Russert...they're all Republican shills (which is sad about Stephanopolous, since he used to be a Democrat). And they're all blantantly partisan. Eric Alterman has talked about this in his book "What Liberal Media"
I'm not going anywhere near the talk shows this week. None today. Didn't watch "The Capital Gang" or "The McLaughlin Group".
And I find I'm not missing them at all. I'm sipping some coffee, watching The History Channel.
This may be permanent. Unless douchebag Robert Novak drops dead on "The Capital Gang", count me out.

1. I just finished Schieffer's memoir, "This Just In." |

He goes to great pains to emphasize how independent he is, but the book was a huge Valentine to W, to Reagan, to Nixon, Ford and George the First. I was flabbergasted. He was decent to Carter, but brutal on Clinton. He has zero objectivity, zero credibility.

Suddenly I am cleaning and talking to my kids more. It's different. I have also taken on some non-reality shows. Watched Lost last night and Desperate Housewives. I thought DH would be racier given the fundie outrage. it was pretty good.

I haven't had CNN on my TV screen since election night. All of these "journalists" helped hand victory to Bush by the simple act of equating lies with truth. They loudly whined that it "wasn't their job" to investigate and point out the thruth to their viewers. A lie was equal to or better than the truth if it could be sold. The TV "journalists" are useless. They have openly declared that they are merely advertising outlets.

5. I've read quite a few textbooks on media recently... |

And the most amazing thing they all agreed upon was that the more you watch TV news, the less informed you are about recent events. At first, I found that counterintuitive, but I have finally come to understand it.
I have foresworn cable TV especially. You get more information out of VH1. They'll have to start reporting the truth to get me back.
