1. My AMD overheated quite a lot...
From what I hear, Intel is better for gaming.

3. if you are really serious
Get a dual processor Xeon, and turn the POS hyperthreading OFF.

AMD is by most accounts better for the extreme gamer though...

but I have a 3.2 P4, with the new x800XT on a pci-x bus...

and nothing has slowed it down.

8. The dual proc AMD's are faster than the Pentiums for now.
Edited on Sun Nov-07-04 07:01 PM by TroubleMan
AMD has a memory controller for each chip, and Intel doesn't.

In comparisons, the dual AMD 2.5GHz out performed dual Intel 3.4GHz. Now that was spotting AMD .9GHz, and AMD still won. That separate memory controller helps that much.

(on edit) Intel is going to change to the way AMD is doing it very soon, so they will probably be faster soon.

5. AMD for now, but it doesn't matter that much unless your going dual proc.

Really, your video card, amount of memory, bus speed, and memory speed make more difference. If you have a fast proc, then AMD and Intel don't differ enough, but I prefer AMD.

Now if you do a dual proc, then AMD has separate memory controllers for each chip, and Intel doesn't (only talking about the high end procs here, not the older ones). That makes a huge difference.

6. I've been using AMD exclusively for about 3 years now.
I will continue to do so when I upgrade to an Athlon 64 next year. I see no reason to change at this point.

9. AMD.. Easily the best bang for the buck
There's nothing wrong with Intel, they're just more expensive.

11. AMD is much better for gaming
Make sure you get the Athlon 64 or FX line. Intel is having issues at the moment and revamping their roadmaps.

12. It's not all about the CPU
There are other things to consider, such as Memory and Video.

A dual channel DDR Ram kit and either AGP 8X or PCI Express can significantly enhance your gaming performance.

14. PCI Express is to replace AGP - also,
512MB video cards based on high-end Nvidia and ATi cards will soon be out. By then, the high-end GPUs with 256MB will be affordable. :9

I always stick with Nvidia - the driver quality is much higher and makes every use of the hardware. While ATi's hardware is superior, their drivers are CRAP and have been for years. And drivers, for stability and performance, are utterly important.

15. AMD packs real power for the price. I'm all AMD these days...
When the Athlon64 drops in price, I am so there. :D

The AMD is easier to overclock...

But be sure to get a higher end heatsink.
