Going for some nostaligia.. playing some old games I used to play on my Tandy 1000 in like the late 80's..
Kings Qest series... I actually got King's Quest 3 to run on my Windows XP 1.7ghz machine. (loaded right up in dos mode)
Working on Kings Quest 6 right now.. damn I can't believe I used to think these were the BOMB graphics...
:bounce:
Back then if you told me I'd be playing full motion video with sound on my home PC Id've laughed at you...
(Id've?... I'd've?....I'dve??... can you even use a double contraction? Well it comes up in normal speech I know that)
:dunce:

10. Those sierra games were cool. |
|
We (my brother and I) had police quest too. We could never figure out how to really play it, so we would just screw around with the game the whole time. It was weird that the guy could actually use the bathroom. We were able to look into the toilet tank at the airport too. We would say crude things to other characters in the game. We kept getting pulled over and yelled at by the Chief. Whenever we wanted to end the game we'd go to the airport and shoot someone. Then the game would show a newspaper article with a picture of the Sonny character in a straight jacket. What a wonderful way to waste time!
We also had Hoyle's Book of Games. I liked to play against the Dog. I always liked the faces and comments the characters would make.
Those games would always take a long time to load. A lot of times I'd make myself a snack and the game would still be loading when I came back to it.

2. Er, may I just say, I remember King's Quest. |
|
I didn't play. I was never much for gaming. But I remember when IBM came out with a 10MB hard drive and we were trying to figure out who the heck would ever need 10Megs?

4. I'd've - it's an unusual construction, but valid |
|
"I would have"
You wouldn't want to use it in an academic paper, though.

5. I would KILL for a working Atari 800 XL with a complete set of peripherals |
|
And a box of 5 1/4" floppy diskettes, in perfect working order, with all the games on them I used to play for HOURS on end at my friend's house in the mid 80's. How the people of today get sooooo bent out of shape over 5 second loading times. Back then when you wanted to play a game that was 48k in length it would take nearly a minute of "beepbeepbeepbeep...beep...beepbeepbeep..." as the hard drive read each sector and gleefully advertised it to you, and the damn title screens could take up to a minute or more with no way to hit the 'X' button or your space bar and speed things along. But, as far as game play value went, some of those old games were just INCREDIBLE for their day. Spelunker (awesome multi-stage platformer by Broderbund), anyone? Or how about Encounter (a full-color version of Battlezone, where the warp stages inbetween levels were controller-throwing, shouting profanity out loud tough)?
I have an emulator and most of the games on rom images, but the emulator is not perfect and some of the games have glitches, probably stemming from slight corruptions in the data from all this time.

|
..now THAT'S old school...
another good way to get some nostalgia is the NESticle.. the emulator for the old Nitendo Entertainment System.. (the click-down cartridges.. Mario/Duck Hunt...)
I had some *great* fun missing like 7th grade school and sitting all day with my friend from down the street when his mom wasn't home with the Nintendo fired up..Ninja Gaiden.. Skate or Die... original Metroid.. Legend of Zelda.. chips.. dip... Pepsi... HEAVEN!!
Ahh, to be that age again, but know what I know now...

8. The summer Mario came out... |
|
I spent three or four days at a time in my best friends basement. Getting stoned, eating fruit loops and playing Mario. Seriously we would not even see sunlight for days ata a time, I guess it didn't help there were no clocks in there either. We would leave to get more kind bud , but then it was back to Mario baby!!!
