Has anyone's marriage suffered from this election? |
|
My spouse and I have been carping over everything; the election, Bush whackos; the new theocratic USA; where should we go? There is no future here, etc. etc.
I try to get him to forget it and then he gets riled up at work by Bush MF assholes or something.
I am serious, this man has become impossible since the election and is out drinking now!!!!
I'm gonna write Laura Bush and give her a piece of my fucking mind about what her husband has done to my husband!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2. funny you should say that. we had our first fight about politics |
|
about 15 minutes ago. Only it was over him always putting a damper on me about how the Dems and Repubs are the same and their roots run deep and Bush and Kerry were Skull and Bones dudes who were naked in the same coffin during some ceremony. I got mad and told him to quit putting a damper on my decisions to boycott certain RED businesses.

5. Yes, somewhat, mostly due to my activism to the exclusion of other things |
|
and being gone a lot to rallies and marches and all. It's been a weird summer anyway, with hubby being laid up after major illness/three surgeries/out of work for months. Getting involved politically is about all that's kept me sane.

sorry about your illnesses, and hope they get better; Bush or not.
I just can't stand the constant tension about how the evangelicals are taking over the country; I can't fix anything; I tried, I gave money, we voted.
I don't think that we can move out of the USA just now; it isn't really feasible; much as I'd go in a New York moment.
"my country is lost in a fog of insurrection".......
my husband was a dry drunk til this weekend, now Lord only knows.

8. I was very moody and temperamental for about a day |
|
And then I just broke down and cried it all out.
We are way too much alike to stay mad at each other for more than a couple hours at a time. In fact, I would go so far as to say that having my wife here is the only thing that kept me from totally losing my mind over this whole election thing.

9. Last week, I read a letter to the editor titled, "I Married A Fool." |
|
The gist of it was that the writer came home from work not long before the election, only to find a Bush/Cheney sign in her front yard. Livid, she pulled the sign out of the ground, tore it in half, and threw it in the trash.
When she got into the house, the woman groused to her husband about the sign and wondered who had done it. The surprised-looking husband advised his wife that *he* had put the sign up because he felt that every president deserved two terms.
The woman concluded her letter (and I'm paraphrasing), "I cannot stay married to such an ignorant fool."
"I'm a uniter, not a divider." Yeah, right, George.

12. My relationship of 7+ years |
|
is going south because of all this stress. We fight about it all the time because I am "obsessing" and angry constantly. I want to leave the country; he doesn't think it's possible or necessary. We don't have sex anymore. In addition, I can't talk to my family anymore without discussing the political situation. I can't even talk to my customers without bringing it up. I want to run people off the road who have Bush/Cheney stickers or W/04 stickers on their cars still. I shout at strangers. Thanks so much, W, for bringing us all together--in hatred and fear.

16. good article in the NYT today about |
|
making constructive use of your anger. Don't let this ruin stuff for you. We all have to figure out a way to carry on. We managed to carry on during Reagan, now we need to find a way to keep the fires lit, so to speak.

23. Yeah, but the changes that Reagan instigated and are still |
|
with us, and keep coming back to bite us in the buttski, only makes it worse.
Union Busting. Fair and equitable air time for candidates. FCC laws, etc. De-regulations in banking, SEC, and too many others to mention which has brought about loss of jobs here, off shore banking, and the whole frickin' mess.

17. I've never seen anything like it in my life |
|
Edited on Mon Nov-08-04 12:13 AM by Geek_Girl
I've seen co-workers who have been friends for years who won't speak to each other. I don't want to be around my in-laws even though I've always thought of them as wonderful people. I hate one of my best friends and don't want to be around him.
I have a friend who wants to go on a four year drinking binge. I've never know our country to be so decisive. I've never experienced anything like it. Half the people at my job are so depressed they can't even function. For me I've just been obsessed and mostly pissed off. I say and do mean spirited things to fundies just to piss them off or make them feel bad. It's completely insane.
Bush's insanity has spread to the rest of country and we are all losing it.

I have a very patient partner. He brought me roses and tried to "get me out of the house" on Friday. On Saturday, I announced I was taking a shower. He gently commented, "Good Idea".
Sweet, tolerant thing. I chuckled and thanked him for being so patient with my weeklong darkness.

This person is so fricking secretive will not discuss politics at all or who he voted for except to rag at me to voting for Kerry. I just withdrew, have nothing to say... I think I've said more words on DU than to him all week.

21. On top of all the problems that will not be solved, the problem |

itself will still be in office for 4 years and then, who know's what?
The only time we have a civil conversation is when we discuss moving elsewhere.
Maybe that's a signal.
