The credit union's check printers have sunk to new depths of incompetence.
OK, so last week, I found out that the printers shipped my checks to an address I haven't set foot in in five years. So, they re-sent the checks. Friday, I get a call that says the checks got returned to sender because apparently the post office hadn't figured out that I live in my new place. Fair enough. Not the fault of the credit union or the check printer. (Probably mine, as I didn't get the change of address in to the post office in time.) I told the credit union I'd pick up the checks at the nearby branch at lunch today.

I get there. My checks are there. Name and address check out.

One problem -- there's an "R" monogram that I didn't order.
My last name begins with "W." My maiden name -- which I am taking back but not yet -- begins with "R."

Apparently, the check printers had this in their database from seven years ago and decided...hey...even though the checks clearly say "W," let's give her an "R" for shits and giggles.

Since the name, address and account number are correct, and I write maybe two checks a month, and I need the damn checks more than I need to wait another two weeks to make them pretty, I'm letting it go. (The checks were free, I should add.)

Plus, in the credit union, they were playing "Closing Time," which I now have in my head. Dammit.

3. Since we're probably not allowed to slander companies here...
Let's just say there's a statue with the same name.

5. If it makes you feel any better...
I had to sing the song in my head to get that line, and now it's stuck in my brain too... :dunce:

Just when you think people can't be any stupider, someone surprises you.

7. I'm waiting for the "W" monogram to show up when I change it back.
Maybe they'll send those checks to my parents' old address, where I haven't lived since 1993, and where they haven't lived since 2003.

8. I will say this...
I'm not sure I'd want a "W" on anything at the moment, anyway. :)

9. True, but...
I didn't order the monogram in the first place. I just wanted basic checks.

10. Just as a security thing
Always have your checks sent to your bank branch. As a rule, they are delivered, not mailed, or are mailed in bulk. I've twice had checks stolen in the mail and cashed before I noticed they hadn't arrived. The bank covered them both times, but it played havoc with my account and it took 30 days to get my money back.

And after filling out a police report, the bank refused to even investigate both times, because $1,000 wasn't worth their time. Well, it was worth mine...
