Woman To Be New Mom Of Twins At Age 57
<snip>

NEW YORK -- A New York woman is getting ready for two unusual deliveries ahead of her 57th birthday: twins.

Aleta St. James said, "It's never too late."

The sister of Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa became pregnant after in-vitro fertilization, and is planning a Caesarean delivery Tuesday of a son and daughter. She'll be 57 on Friday.

The single-mom-to-be is a motivational speaker who helped her brother set up the crime-fighting group in the 1970s.

Sliwa said his sister will "be a great mother."

She already has the babies' names picked out: Gian and Francesca.

3. /shakes head
You're gonna be 75 when your kids theoretically leave the house.

my wife was born when her mom was 45 (naturally), IIRC, and it wasn't easy, and they had no energy left for her when she was a teenager.

Everything turned out okay, I suppose (other than her father dying before our son was born), but I'm not gonna cheer 57 year olds having kids.

5. That made me laugh.
Honestly, I think this is nuts. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. Get a puppy or a kitten, instead.

7. Even adoping an 8 year old
could work.

I guess I shouldn't gripe too much because people with fertility problems are so foreign to me. Both our kids were planned down to the week, practically. So I should have some sympathy, but it just doesn't seem right.

6. She has been carrying them for 57 years?
That seems like an awful long time.
