Aldis...month's worth of groceries=$95.00
You too can do it. It's a great feeling to load up a cart and a half for under a hundred and know that at Kroger I would have had to sell my car! Try it! Aldi's is great!

6. Aldi's sells their own brand of food, and the shopping carts are on a
deposit basis, and you bag your own groceries with your own bags. Thus, you're able to save a lot of money. It really is worth it. And their chicken breasts are way better than Tysons. :hi:

3. My local Aldi smells bad
Not saying that all of them do, but I miss shopping at Trader Joes in Sunnyvale :(

9. Ours doesn't. I miss Trader Joes too, but we're saving every penny for
when the inevitable giant shoe drops. :hi:

11. I've been shopping more at CostCo
buying in bulk whenver I can. I have the feeling the shoe is going to drop, too.

As an aside, my favorite thing about my visit to Aldi here in Atlanta was the clucking of the older folks who couldn't figure out the shopping cart system. I think it was pretty smart and a good way to eliminate all of the carts in the parking lot.

15. Heheh. That happens here too. I used to do a lot of Costco, but their
prices have recently risen so I've scaled way back. :hi:

18. Same here
It seems like most of the food items I buy each increased by nearly $2 across the board.

20. Prices have gone up. Blame Fuel increases and GREED.

For the last 3 weeks, my groceries have cost $70, $65, and this week, only $50.

That's for a single guy who likes to nuke frozen entres for lunch with canned fruit and yogurt, and dinner is usually Gardenburger and Soba noodles.

Not exactly Filet Mignon and Sushi-grade Tuna, eh?

Same items used to cost between $29 and $50 a week. Depended on whether I was in the mood for Applewood and Chesire cheese or not.

I had forgotten Aldi's...Yeah, they got a rep for being the "Poor Store", but hey, who am *I* trying to kid?

Think I'll go there next week.

the main reason Walmart never was able to establish itself

over here.

Despite being still family owned, Aldi isn't exactly a "Good" business, for instance it is very Anti-Union. But the quality is OK and the prices are among the lowest. Service isn't regarded as being important by anyone here, but I have no idea how US Aldis compare to local ones.

I have heard many great things about Trader Joe's; I hope Aldi discovers the international potential of that brand.

12. It is a German company
Family owned. I'd say pretty conservative, but not visible as major donors to any political party.

They are very anti-Union, but the wages are above-average.

13. It is an international chain, so I am going to take a guess that they
are pretty liberal. I've never been able to find any political contribution info on them. Most neighborhoods don't want them as they "bring down values". :eyes: Check out this article:

May those people never hit hard times...of course, they will.

22. Heh, your post goes contrary to kellanved's! BTW, no wonder
it seemed familiar--I saw the name when we traveled to France this summer! I did wonder if it was the same grocery store as the few ones I've seen in the US!

7. I shop there too. Love their whole wheat bread.
It is really stoneground and only 1.29 here. My husband even likes it and I couldn't get him to eat the 2.79 stuff from the other stores. Our store doesn't carry everything I need but it is a great help.

tastes just like Wonder for 39 cents. What a deal!! :hi:

19. I heard that their food has improved over the past few years
Is that true? I know that you are all enthusiatic about the store, but when I was in high school, I moved in with my dad and step mother who were working poor and bought Aldi's food to make ends meet. Almost everything I ate, unless I could find a good coupon, was Aldi's brand and I really didn't like a lot of it very much. I suppose that it could have been an unfair association, cheap=low quality, but it didn't seem that way. I suppose that I always could give it a second chance. It is inexpensive after all.
