Spinal Tap - no matter how many times I see it-it gets funnier every time
and I hear and see things I didn't before.

And I have yet to see the special edition with 2 hours of extra footage.

1. I agree...so many great lines in that movie...totally deadpan....
The funny thing is that I recently got VH1 Classics and they show a ton of metal videos from the 70's and 80's, and if anything many of them are MORE over the top than Spinal Tap was AS A PARODY!!!

My wife doesn't "get" Spinal Tap though. She likes all the other Chris Guest/Mike Mcean faux documentaries, but she just doesn't jive with the Tap.

2. I have the SE version. >
I don't think the extra footage totals two hours, though.

The "in-character" commentary is good, but the film is better off as it's edited. The extra footage amounts mostly to set pieces, e.g., stoned in the hot tub, that simply aren't as funny, IMO.

3. And little visual jokes
Like the cold sores on the singer and the guitarist's mouths.

They got them from each other, get it???

I guess you had to be there...

6. Boston is a lousy college market anyway
And that's from our "where are they now" file.

Those two lines nearly kill me every time.

7. You think This Is Spinal Tap is funny?
Watch Metallica: Some Kind of Monster. It's frighteningly similar. Kirk Hammett may be just as dumb as David St. Hubbins.

8. I just watched it for the first time last week
I don't know why it took me so long - just hadn't gotten around to it. I laughed till I cried. Very good movie, very clever.

12. We had a Spinal Tap moment at work,
ordered a conveyor belt 60" x 108', and got one 60" x 108".

Nobody knew WTF I was talking about, when I raised concerns about it being trod upon.

"Spinal Tap?"

Blank stare.

16. A Mighty Wind
...was a great follow-up to Spinal Tap. Instead of the opportunistic "Tap" you are faced with people who really take the god-awful crap they do seriously.

I play in a folk/bluegrass trio and boy, does it ever hit home. My wife and 9-year-old kid watched it this weekend and kept elbowing each other saying, "that's just like daddy's group!"
