Mice have an uncanny sense of what is solid and what is soft. That is how they are generally able to figure out which part of a wall to chew through and which to avoid (when is the last time you saw a mouse hole burrowed directly into a wall stud?) SOO... a person is strapped face down, with a bucket of mice strapped to the stomach area. The mice, needing to get out, instintively nip/bit/burrow up into the stomach area, then make a right-angled turn INSIDE OF YOU and exit through the side of your torso (where you get love handles). Ouch.

Almost drowned as a kid and have a horrible phobia about it.

On the other hand, I've concluded that one of the best ways to die is to be struck by lightning. I was hit when I was 16 and I never felt a thing. There was just this loud BANG! sound in my ears and next thing I knew, I was flat on my back about ten feet from where I'd been standing. Painless and quick, that appeals to me.

And with Medicare completely in the hands of private industry, refusing your every entreaty. Maybe for added measure, throw in a touch of dementia -- just enough where you cannot perceive things correctly, and are in a constant state of agitation and confusion. But you still have just enough marbles to know that things are terribly off-kilter. Euthanasia would be out of the question, because fundies won't allow it.

This scenario is pretty much what's coming with the new right-wing realities.

My mom had a stroke 10 years ago, and finally died last year. She **had** family, friends, my dad's health plan and Medicare, and it still was hell.

During this past decade, I met many individuals whose lot was much worse than my mom's -- they were in torment, with no quick passing in sight. They would have welcomed the death that was coming all too slowly.

Geez, talk about a buzzkill! :(

58. Being drawn and quartered seems a pretty unpleasant way to go.

Old form of judicial execution in Britain. First, the condemned is dragged on a hurdle from the prison to the place of execution. Then, he is half-hanged so he slowly strangles but is still alive and aware. Then, he is emasculated with a single stroke, slit open from sternum to pubic bone, and his heart is pulled out and held before his dying eyes so that it is the last thing he sees.

Breaking on the wheel is possibly worse, though. The condemned was spreadeagled on the ground, naked, wrists and ankles tied to stakes and wooden blocks placed beneath the joints, which were then crushed and the limbs broken with the iron rim of a large wagon wheel. Then the legs and arms of the condemned were laced THROUGH THE SPOKES OF THE WHEEL and he was tied there and left to hang until dead.


Those are the two least pleasant ways to go I can think of.
