Has Oprah gotten too full of herself?
I used to watch her, but I stopped long before she started sucking up to the Rethuglicans. I think she is more than a little too full of herself, too much on the "I'M SELF-ACTUALIZED, AND YOU'RE NOT!" trip. "O," her magazine, is nothing but an extension of her ego. It's all about Oprah; no one and nothing else matters.

I think she has become like Martha Stewart, someone who promotes a certain (upscale) lifestyle, and she gives off the vibe that you are nothing if you have not attained, do not aspire to, that lifestyle.

2. Oprah has always been full of herself
Edited on Tue Sep-16-03 10:25 AM by sparosnare
she thinks she's an expert on everything. Have never been able to watch her. Yuk.

Speaking of her magazine - anyone notice how airbrushed her cover pic always is?? She's a big phony.

4. I'll be all over it like Oprah on a baked ham
Great line from the Simpsons.

It's clear after yesterday's show that she is nothing more than a today, celebrity-ass-licking whore. All this self-realization crap is just crap.

And we have her to thank for Dr. Phil! Come on, the guy is overweight--why is he promoting a weight-loss book!

His son is a 23-year-old law student who has written a best-selling self-help book! What the f**k can a 23-year-old tell you about life!

It's insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

7. huh
why is a law student writing a self help book, and where did he find the time? Wonder if his profs and school are 'helping'.

I've thought that for some time now. Although I think she does a lot of great stuff. My husband always laughs about her magazine...she is always the one on the cover.

6. Just the image of Ahhnold and Maria Shriver on her set...
Was enough to make me wretch! :puke:

REALLY glad I wasn't home to watch that one--What's Ahhnold trying to convey--elect me "governator" and get Maria to run the show?

Wonder what he thinks of the "Stay" of the recall? :eyes:

B-)

8. I just sent this to the daytime whore
Ms. Winfrey,
Your show, little more than a 1-hour political advertisement for republican Arnold Schwartzenegger, has negated any and all good work you have done over the past years. In kneeling to kiss the boots of a leader of the undemocratic attack on our elecion system, you have joined forces with those who are tearing down the pillars of free and democratic America.
Your lust for ratings has led you to forsake the values you supposedly held and clearly show you to be a full-fledged, card-carrying member of the anti-American republican party.
Know that we are now aware of your full enlistment in the ranks of the stormtroopers such as Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Hannity, North, Savage, and the rest who have been the foot soldiers of the Bush* regime.
I hope you are happy with your new friends, as you are no longer welcome among the ranks of freedom-loving Americans.

9. She has a magazine
and she puts herself on the cover of every single issue. Yes, I'd say she's just a bit full of herself.

11. I can't stand her!
She uses that fake "girlfriend" and name-drops about all of the celebrities she knows, all the while trying to act like she's one of us (I remember one time when one of her guests was talking about saving money and Oprah made some comment about "wow, and we can save money besides!" (like she needs to worry about $$)!

I have a friend who has written two novels and I was always pulling for her novels to get chosen for Oprah's Book Club and if my friend got on her show I would definitely have gone (it was a joke between my friend and I--she knows I can't stand Oprah) but I haven't watched Oprah for the longest time...

12. I've enjoyed all the books on her Book Club list
Except for "The House of Sand and Fog." But I've never actually watched her show. If I see a book with the Oprah logo on it, it's a safe bet that it will be a pretty good read.

13. All I know is Arnold told 3 versions of his "Oui" interview. One was a lie
Why didn't Oprah (if she's so honest) ask him why he had 3 versions... (1)he said he gave the interview in his wild, younger years. (2)the next day he said he didn't remember the interview. (3)then later he said he made it all up for publicity...Apparently he decided version no. 3 was the one he wanted to stick with....:puke:

14. I'm not going to bash her
She's made a very successful career for herself and helped
many people via her show. I wasn't happy with the Arnold
and Maria segment yesterday but also understand that Maria
is a pal of hers and it was a coup of sorts to get them
on together. Arnold embarrassed himself yet again by his
"coming" comments, but that's what happens when he isn't
absolutely on script.
The show unfortunately got more airtime (on news) and presstime
(in newspaper today) than it warranted.

I think when Oprah hears or reads the interviews by
the two black body-builders talking Arnold's comments when
he was a bodybuilder about hating niggers, she might
have a different opinion of him.

17. so....
>>She's made a very successful career for herself

And that makes her a wonderful person, right?

>>Maria is a pal of hers and it was a coup of sorts to get them

She should choose her "pals" better. Being friends with evil has to rub off, doncha think?

>>The show unfortunately got more airtime (on news) and presstime
(in newspaper today) than it warranted.

Which is why is was harmful. Giving these scum publicity and the aura of acceptance only plays into their plans.

Why should the no-talent whore let a little truth influence her?

18. Gotten? GOTTEN?
Actually, I think that she has tried to do a lot of good, and there's no doubting that her transformed show was a beacon of sanity amidst a sea of daytime-TV-talk-show depravity. She went for the deep and meaningful and I know she has helped a lot of people along the way.

For me, though, I've long found her (TV persona, at least) quite grating. I've always thought she was too full of herself, even before she came out with a magazine named in honor of...um...herself....with a monthly cover shot of...um...herself.

It's obvious in the way she treats people on her show. I think she's a terrible interviewer. She rushes people, interrupts them when they're just getting going, and cuts in to talk about herself way too much. It's all about Oprah. Does not turn me on at all - I always find myself willing her to keep her mouth shut for just five seconds at a time but, inevitably, my efforts are futile. I feel bad for her guests, even if they'r ehappy to be there.

For what it's worth, I think that the same is true of all of the 'big-time' network interviewers, though I see some (like Barbara Walters...*shudder*...and her near-clone, Diane Sawyer) as terrible interviewers for other reasons. Matter of fact, I have seen VERY few American TV hosts or 'news'-persons who could interview anyone halfway decently, probably becaue (a) many are probably rather full of themselves and (b) the short-attention-span pace of American TV doesn't lend itself to any actual depth in interviewing. I remember seeing Tom Snyder's revived show and thinking that he was pretty good, and ditto with Bob Costas when he used to have the Late Show, but otherwise I can't think of too many right now. Certainly nobody like the UK's Parkinson and Frost (who may also be full of themselves, but at least know how to let people talk).

And, no, I don't dislike Oprah or find her success annoying. More power to her, especially if she is still helping people. I, myself, personally - me - just find her TV style discordant. Plenty of people are out there who're at least as full of themselves but who haven't done even a fraction of the good that she's done - not that she's some kind of saint, but who said she had to be?

20. I confess I don't watch Oprah
... I did see an episode while visiting friends not too long ago and the show was devoted to whoring for Wal-Mart ... a house make-over buying stuff from Wal-Mart ... Opray: "Wal-Mart is looking pretty good"

if the name Wal-Mart was mentioned once, it was mentioned 100 times ... :puke:

(( copied part of my post on another Oprah thread

21. Oprah has been full of herself for a long time...
...witness the magazine with her photo on it every month.

I like some of what she has to say re: self-esteem and such, and I like that she got a lot of people to read some good books. But she can't seem to look beyond herself, and the show ends up being about her, not whoever she's interviewing.

Plus I wish she would stop pimping diets and all that crap. She has more money than God, trainers a go-go, and even she can't lose weight and keep it off? What does that tell you?

23. Oprah Used to Be Cool...
Until she started sucking up to Dr. Phil, and dieting like crazy..

She was magnificent in *The Color Purple*! I'm black, I'm fat, I'm female, I'm gorgeous: deal with it.

Dr. Phil? Ugh! This creep is the worst sort of male chauvanist, the kind who puts women down while pretending to be a feminist ("ladies, if you want to keep your husbands, stay in shape, maintain a clean and orderly home, and make sure the kids are polite, well-mannered and keep out of their hair"). He's Dr. Laura with a comb-over!

I loved the fat Oprah. She proved to all us homely, pudgy gals that you didn't have to be painfully thin and conventionally beautiful to be successful and desireable.

Dieting and exercising for health is sensible. Doing so that you'll look good on a magazine cover is crazy.

And doing so just to keep a man who only cares about appearances is completely insane!
