aaarggh!! Stupid dog owners.... |
|
I take Tucker down to the local coffee shop every morning. There's an outdoor patio and lots of people bring their dogs. Most are on-leash.
There's a couple of young guys who come every day with their dogs OFF leash. One is a pit-bull/mastiff mix, and the other is a English Bulldog bitch. Both are nice dogs, but the pit/mastiff mix is scary-looking, and about the size of a small house. As I said, he's nice, but being off-leash, he just goes up to everybody walking by and I can tell half are scared to death. Then he wanders off, and the owner whistles, thus exciting all the other dogs in the place.
The real nut-breaker is this - the bulldog bitch has already had two litters (she's 3 years old). Her teats are still nearly touching the ground from the last litter, and today the owner tells me she's pregnant again, but the father is...
a rottweiler.
Yeah, a rottweiler/bulldog mix. Giving birth for a bulldog is already life-threatening - imagine doing it with puppies twice as big as usual.
Fucking idiots.

about the puppymilling but surely your town has a leash law and you can complain about these guys not observing it. Then you could possibly ask for an animal cruelty investigation into the plight of the bitch.

I suspect she won't survive the birthing, so she'll get her punishment for bein' a slut.
Seriously, this is awful. The poor dog very likely won't survive. Most bulldogs give birth via caesarian section. I KNOW these idiots won't spend the money it costs to do that.

31. I've run into similar type situations |
|
One lady had over a hundred cats because she couldn't afford to get them spayed and neutered. Once she couldn't afford to feed them, she finally talked to the vet and he agreed to fix them at a reduced rate. It would have been much cheaper to fix the original cats than to fix 100 cats.
Another time I was in a convenience store buying a coke and the woman in front of me was buying cat food. She was complaining loudly about how every time she turned around her cat was having kittens. I asked why she didn't get the cat spayed and she said she had never thought about it.
Sometimes I hate people.

Maybe it's not too late to get her spayed. I've known of dogs being spayed while they were pregnant. Do you think you could convince him to do this?

This is going to kill his dog. Bulldogs have the most horrible time giving birth anyway. This is just cruel.
Speaking of dumb ass pet owners, I saw on some show on Animal Planet today someone bringing in their cat for help delivering. It was the cat's 20th (that is not a typo) litter and the cat was unable to care for her kittens correctly. Some people don't deserve the privilege of pets.

They were going back to the same vet the went to for years. Why didn't the vet put a stop to this? The owner stated someone told her the cat was too old to be spayed. If the cat is too old to be spayed, it is definately too old to be bred.

I have two: a black Labrador Retriever named Callisto and a Welsh Springer Spaniel named Argos. They're the greatest pets on Earth, and I wouldn't trade them for any damn cat. :)

think people should be required to pass an IQtest to have the honor of being a pet owner. Gawd I hate that. Kind of like when you tell someone that they have a beautiful dog, and they proceed to tell you about their breeding plans.....

I don't object to responsible breeding - obviously, I wouldn't have my beautiful boy without it. But this is unconscionable - a beautiful fullbred English Bulldog mated with a Rottweiler? What good can come of that? The dame will likely die and the pups will be undesirable. Grrr... this pisses me off.

Responsible breeding is one thing. I have to say though, those breeders that are doing it for reasons OTHER than the money are usually few and far between. But, you do have a beautiful boy, I must say ;) Hopefully, the dog in this situation, terrible as her deliveries may be, will survive. Poor dog...

It's bad enough they're putting her through that. What have they done with the other litters, and what's going to happen with these puppies? It doesn't sound like their intention is breeding for profit as I can't imagine there is much demand for bulldog/rottweiler mixes.

27. Pete the dog's mom here |

Those guys need to be reported to the animal welfare people. can anybody be that stupid? I've been so hurt and down about the election and this is about the last straw. She won't be able to handle the head size of a Rottie puppy. At the very least advise them to have c-section delivery. I was all ready to adopt a little dog rescued from a puppy miil about a year ago. She had many health problems due to overbreeding and no vet care. She had to be put to sleep because an ear infection left undertreated got to her brain. Humans stink! Pete, my 1/2 yorkie and 1/2 wire hair mini dachshund is doing fine. He has finally stopped trying to chew my fingers off. We have been going to an off leash park. He really loves the big dogs. gets right in there with them. We went there the other day and I got run over by a gang of four big dogs and sprained my back. They ran right over me and of course while I was down they all had to come over and lick me. Guess we'll stay home a couple of days.

This has been bugging me all day. I think i'll see if i can have a private talk with the kid. I don't think he really understands what's involved.
edit: I'm sure they won't do a c-section. She gave birth to two litters of bulldogs naturally (which is very dangerous) and they think she's a breeding machine. I'm also sure they don't have the wherewithal to pay for a c-section. She needs to be spayed and the puppies aborted.
