Will you tolerate a mommy gloat? |
|
I just got my 12-yr-old daughter's report card for the first term. Life with my oldest has been stressful. She's very bright and use to be in a "gifted" program, back in the days prior to NCLB when our district had such a thing. We've always had problems because, in her words, "Why should I do all this work that I already know how to do?"
Report card this term: 5 As - 2 B+s
A few of the teacher comments:
"Completes all assignments and works hard every day." "Is doing outstanding work." "Follows directions consistently." "Initiates lively and timely class discussions -- makes others think out their positions." (From current events teacher)
Man, I'm so happy I'm in tears. I was wondering why my phone and e-mail had been so silent from the school this year. Maybe my kid finally gets it?

Hard work by students + great teachers = academic success. You have every right to be VERY proud of yourselves. The future of this country is indeed in the hands of our children; and parents like you. Thanks for the uplifting post! :-)

Good for you. Good for her. My daughter was the same way. She finally "got" it. Just to give you a little encouragement, she is now 33, happily married, and has the smartest, most gorgeous son you've ever seen in your life. :-)

...Maybe she's finally getting challenged. My best friend has a gifted son, and when he switched schools since he's in the fifth grade this year, he's doing much better. He was bored for two years and getting into sooo much trouble. Congratualate your daughter. Reward her with some one on one parent time doing something you enjoy doing together. Duckie

Reflects upon a parent's work well done, too.
