Poll question: Favorite Sting solo song?
Maybe someone can do another poll for the Police. Personally, I like his earlier solo work, but lately he is sounding more and more like Phil Collins.

22. Mmmm. . .
He had a concert scheduled on September 11, 2001--he decided to go along with it and sang that song. Brings tears to my eyes.

3. His cover of Little Wing
I agree, though, he's gotten very Collinsesque.

10. "Fragile"
I heard it when he was part of the benefit telethon hosted by George Clooney two weeks after 9/11.

It's from his album "Nothing Like the Sun"

"...Perhaps this final act was meant
To clinch a lifetime's argument
That nothing comes from violence
and nothing ever could
For all those born beneath an angry star
Lest we forget how fragile we are

On and on the rain will fall
Like tears from a star like tears from a star
On and on the rain will say
How fragile we are
How fragile we are..."

:cry::hug:

Dark, deep and hard rocking song(for Sting), just the kind of music I lean towards.

17. You've listed Sting Singles
I picked Desert Rose but I've found through the years that Sting's best songs are not the ones he has released to be "hits"

Among them:
Children's Crusade
Another Day
History Will Teach Us Nothing
They Dance Alone
Fragile
Mad About You
Why Should I Cry For You
I Was Brought To My Senses

Regarding the Phil Collins comment - Years ago, before The Police broke up, Stewart Copeland made a joke about Sting saying "Without us he'd be Phil Collins"

;-)

20. Amen.
Pompous, self-absorbed, strained poetry can only be balanced by minimalist avant-pop drumming and virtuoso Eno-esque guitar.

Sting is a damned good pop bassist, however.

24. A powerful protest song - "They Dance Alone", adapted to 9/11
Hey Mr. Pinochet
You've sown a bitter crop
It's foreign money that supports you
One day the money's going to stop
No wages for your torturers
No budget for your guns
Can you think of your own mother
Dancin' with her invisible son
They're dancing with the missing
They're dancing with the dead
They dance with the invisible ones
Their anguish is unsaid
They're dancing with their fathers
They're dancing with their sons
They're dancing with their husbands
They dance alone
They dance alone

It's the only form of protest they're allowed
I've seen their silent faces scream so loud
If they were to speak these words they'd go missing too
Another woman on a torture table, what else can they do?

Picture the Republican Convention at Ground Zero, with the
wives and mothers and husbands and fathers of the 9-11 dead, dancing alone.
