NASSCO, SWM, or CMSD? Which yard?
I've worked for all of those fine waterfront companies. Are you wet or in dry dock?
Dontcha love the smells and noises of the shipyard?

I love the smell of marine primer in the morning.

20. Sorry to hear that. That was always my least favorite of the yards.
If you can slip away try to check out some of the small, family run mexican restaurants in the Barrio/Logan area. Great food for good prices. Just dont walk around there alone,or at night.

Ever been to IB in general? What's become of the old helicopter base there, once called Ream Field, then NAS Imperial Beach?

7. I've been down to IB
The old helo base is still there, but used more as a storage space than anything else. The heloflopters still practice stuff, though.

Never been on the pier, though.

Does he have a good rep inside the service? Any feedback from your mates on Clark swinging some Bush votes in '00 to the Dem's in '04?

Thanks! :hi:

10. well...
Clarke gets some support from us Military types...he's likely to get my good buddy Guns to vote for him in the primary. And he's the one most likely to get Sparks to vote against Bush.

Other than that, I hadn't heard that Clarke had declared until I got on DU this afternoon, so I imagine I'll here more as the word gets out.

11. How is your relationship with the SKs?
Is there still a "jack of the dust"?

What year did you guys drop the .45 for the 9mm? or has it not changed?

Does your ship's store sell Zippo's with the ship's insignia?

How long has your Command Master Chief been in? What is his/her rate?

16. SK's are typical supply
Want you to do thier job for them; act like they are doing you a favor when they do work.

Jack of the Dust is still there, polishing the bell.

We got 9mm's a few years back. I'm more accurate with the 9mm.

Zippo's with ship's insignia are a tradition that is never going away.

Command Master Cheif has been in for 28 years, and is a Sonar Tech. PING!

It does require eggshells, and that you don't wash your coffee pot for at least 4 years.

The coast should be right up around Richmond by Friday/Saturday.

Have you ever swabbed a deck? Or battened any hatches?

Would you be duty bound to do anything unpleasant if I were to sail up next to you flying the Jolly Roger?

When was the last time someone called you a squid, squid?

39. Nooooo....
Richmond? On the lEast Coast? I'm in San Diego.

I've swabbed decks, but lately I get to have my underlings do it. Battaned hatches too.

Jolly Rogers should only be flown when crossing the line, in honor of his Imperial Majesty, Neptunus Rex, Lord of the Raging Main.

Yesterday, when I talked to one of my jarhead friends. We both agreed better here than with the wing wipers in the Air Farce.

40. I know you're in San Diego
But the Navy has so many ships, they wouldn't miss yours. Onto more questions.

Ever sat in the Captain's chair when no one was looking?

While at sea, when you using the bathroom, excuse me, the head......where does it go?

What's the difference between boat and ship? Is it just size?

If the President was aboard your ship, would its designation change like it does for aircraft?

Where can I get my hands on a Tomahawk?

What's it like out at sea when you're not busy?

41. well...
Yes, I've used the CO's chair when no one is around. It's kind of a 'I'm doing something I shouldn't, isn't it fun' feeling for a few minutes, then it becomse a sort of 'so what?'.

If we are far enough out to sea, the toilets flush straight over the side. It's all biodegradable.

A boat can fit on a ship, a ship can't fit on a boat.
It's a size thing. But also a ego thing.
All submarines are boats.
Your ship is a boat (or barge, to be derisive).

No, our designation wouldn't change if the President came on board. Or even if Bush came on board.

For a tomahawk, try the Atlanta Braves.

On a quiet night out to sea, when there is no moon, clear skies, and no land within 50 miles...it is so peaceful, and there are a billion stars that float just out of reach...

Nevermind, I did NOT ask that. It's just that I would have joined up if it hadn't been for a girl who promised me forever, but only gave me 5 years.

Sorry about that, the first anniversay to not be observed is Friday and well.. you know.

I've always wanted to go out to sea. Maybe I'll get a sail boat one day.

but I don't recommend any life changing decision when under the influence of alchohol, drugs, or broken heart.

When I get out, I'm going to get me a surplus destroyer and go into business for myself!

(I seem to remember there being a surplus destroyer on display in Charleston...which I think would be the one nearest you. Look up the 'Tin Can Sailors' association.)
