Fallwell prayed and Isabel listened.....she downsized herself and is
dressed in rags......for her appearance on the Mid-Atlantic Coast.

But.....she has lot's of water in her belly......and it remains to be seen if Falwells' prayers to his "wicked god," will be all that he hoped
it would be...

This could still be "very bad news" even though the first threats of "devastation" with Category 5...have gone down to a 2 or possible 3 with landfall.... 2's and 3's are no picnics for those who are living through them. And, economically, in our very fragile economy....they are a disaster of their own......:-(

1. I notice
he only prayed after it started to wander and slow down.

Calculated risk on his part methinks. :D

2. Praying to prevent hurricanes: Good
Praying for 3 Supreme Court Justices to step down so they can overturn the Anti-Sodomy ruling by the US Supreme Court: Not Good

Even I was praying for Isabel to downsize. Then again maybe it was my power of prayer and not Falwells that stopped it.

Then again maybe it was the fact that Isabel is moving into colder water which is slowing it down and prayer had nothing to do with it.

in the bank!" If I could figure out how to use one....I would buy one again!

Just so you know......we purchased one after one of our NC disasters and when we got the box home and read the instructions on how to use it.....we packed it back up and returned it to Lowe's! But, then maybe we are masochists at heart..or just not able to read and understand instructions, LOL's. If you got one and can use it....please pass along the "simplified directions!"

Edited: for many typos!

like that at all....After we got through two pages of "CAUTION: DO NOT plug the thingy to the thingy ....doing so may cause "danger explosion" and "when inserting the x valve into the xx valve....carefully insert the y..OR "Storage Alert!" If you will not be using your Generator for an extended period of time.....be sure you see the "Caution Instructions" for storage on page A-3....we decided it was safer to just let our thawed Refrigerator and freezer stuff go into the garbage rather than worry about blowing up our house.

They obviously have improved them in the last two years! Thank Goodness! :D

17. Remember to CHANGE THE OIL after the 2-hour break-in period...
... then check the oil level for every tankful of gas, etc etc.

We bought one a few weeks ago also... a big honkin' 5500 amps. Should be enough to keep the refrigerator and freezer humming and we can swap plugs to run the microwave or a hotplate.

7. 60 mph gusts can wreak havoc on our neighborhood...
105 mph steady winds are not going to be a picnic.

Foulwell had better keep praying.

10. So he prayed for a weak storm?
Edited on Tue Sep-16-03 08:17 PM by ProudGerman
If his prayer was gonna be answered, why didn't Isabel just go poof and disappear? Oh, that's right Falwell, god stopped doing obvious miracles long time ago. He likes to be inconspicous nowadays...I gotcha Jerry.

If the weakened Isabel still kills people, can we hold Jerry responsible for not asking for it to miss landfall altogether?

Why don't they pray it to go EAST!!!???!!!

Why don't they pray it to DISAPPEAR!!???

14. Isn't it interesting...
That good old Jerry waited until all the weather analysts said Izzy would weaken because of the rarity of a Cat 5 hurricane lasting very long? It's also interesting that our beloved Minister To The Masses waited until she actually DID start to behave according to the forecasters path projection he began his devout prayers?

15. the efficacy of prayer
Falwell is going to be OK- though drenched- out there in Lynchburg. But by his grandiose powers, it turns out God has decided to hit Pat Robertson's bunch there in Virginia Beach good.

Oh, there's a whole bunch of American Indian religious artifacts found in the Southeast from a narrow span in time- some 20-30 years- called as a group the Southern Cult. Formally they haven't figured out what it means, but all the symbols do point to images of hurricanes and tornados in other Indian cultures. There was probably a time when the SE got hit a couple times in a very short span of time and the people went into a lot of religiosity. There's maybe something of an explanation in there for why the South has remained particularly 'religious' into our times....

Oh, the Quetzalcoatl ('Feathered Serpent') mythology of Mexico is also all about hurricanes. On the islands off Yucatan Quetzalcoatl even used to be called Hurrican (the Carib Indian name for the god of these storms) from which the Spanish and English took the name for the phenomenon.

But to get to the name 'feathered serpent' means that some Indians must have been in and seen the full inside of the eye of a perfect hurricane and thought it moving like the unwinding of a coiled up snake (the clouds will fit the feathery part). That must have been one unbelievably awesome sight- to see the full inside of an eye of a hurricane and live to tell about. And for neolithic people to understand just how a full hurricane moves and that it unravels much like a snake, that is incredible too.

16. Re feathered snake, Good post, luv it
Re prayers:: It don't work, period.

requires PREDICTION, the ability to predict. "I will pray for the Hurricane to stop" and it does, "I will pray for the resignation of Bush" and he does. If there was a person who can predict thru prayers 10 out of 10 times, that is one connected guy. Out of the nearly 7 billion humans on Earth, nada.

18. So With All This Praying... Why Doesn't God Just Blink It Away?
Poof! It's gone!

What a GREAT publicity stunt! Imagine all the followers he could get if he pulled off a global miracle like that!

I think god needs a new agent.

19. I noticed some of the projections are moving the storm westward
away from say, Richmond and D.C. and closer to Lynchburg. Pray away you sonnofabitch!

A prayer

Dear God, please make Isabel a force for good. Please leave all Pat Robertson's neighbors in Virginia Beach unscathed, but flood his house and rain down on his hypocritical ass. Take away some of the millions he conned people out of.

And God, while you're at it give Jerry Falwell a good slap on the ass. Show the world that you really don't listen to him. Keep the people safe but flood that campus of his and hit him where he lives, in his pocketbook.

Thank you, and amen.
