2. "pepper" was a popular one a few years back |
|
Another good one is "Angel," if it isn't too corny for you. "You know she is an angel because she has wings."

Here is some information from Bird Talk magazine: http://www.animalnetwork.com/birdtalk/profiles/profileview.asp?RecordNo=314The bright orange cheek patches are the mark of the male. On edit: If you have not owned a bird before, perhaps you are not aware that birds do not have external genitalia and no parrot (cockatiels are parrots) have a penis.

11. i understand the way to tell |
|
is from the tail feathers, length of certain ones, coloration, etc. Our male has the bright orange spot, and a neighbor said that was the mark of a female, found out that is incorrect id'ing. When we got our female, 'his' name was 'chuckie', but now it's Pearl. She has bright orange spots too.
check with the local pet store and vet, etc to gender i.d. them.

10. Name him Sue in memory of Johnny Cash |
|
We found out that our bird was a male right before (she) died. We called him a her for 26 years and we even gave him a girls name.

Absolutely. Yo.
EDIT: added more traditionally feminine option.

16. An exotic bird should have an exotic name: Tondelayo |
|
Edited on Tue Sep-16-03 08:01 PM by nuxvomica
Which is a girl's name. Hedy Lamarr's character in the movie White Cargo.
on edit: If it's a boy bird, "Oolorin". That's "Gandalf" in Elvish.

I've thought I'd enjoy having a bird, but my cat might get the wrong idea. For the time being, I watch the pretty little visitors outside at the bird feeder. So does my cat.:-)

I know you'll take supergood care of her! I like NSMA's suggestion of Talulah, that's a cute name. You might just want to watch her for a few days & see if her personality suggests a name to you. Good luck with your birdie!:D

27. I'd suggest getting ideas for names, but not picking one until |
|
after you get her. Sometimes it's good to wait to see the bird's behavior and see if that suggests a name to you.

Shut the Hell up. One day while I was at school, his cage mate died. I came home and found that STHU had eaten the other bird's feet off. After that, he was known as "Hannibal". I don't think this post is very helpful. I just felt like telling a story.
