Poll question: Which of these musicians have you ever wanted to be?
Edited on Tue Sep-16-03 08:55 PM by SweetZombieJesus
I'm trying to include more than just guitarists here. I picked Keith, because Exile On Main Street is one of my favorite records of all time.

The guy is a showstopper. Very personable...just great.

Paul is "terminally cute."

5. In my teens I wanted to be David Gilmour
Great singing voice, incredible hands, and member of what I then considered to be the greatest band in the world.

Today, I'd be maybe DJ Shadow or Ennio Morricone.

7. Where are the women?????????
I always wanted to be Joan Baez, or Stevie Nicks. Hello? No women? Women can be great musicians as well.

9. I was trying to go for all people who play instruments
Just didn't think of any of the women, though I do greatly admire Chrissy Hynde, Poly Styrene from the X-Ray Spex, Siouxsie Sioux, Patti Smith, Kathleen Hanna of Bikini Kill and Le Tigre, Stevie, Emmy Lou Harris, Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow (new album sucks though), Exene from X (I forget how to spell her last name), Kim Deal, Tanya Donnely, Neko Case, Lucinda Williams, Kristin Hersh, and Mellissa Auf Der Mar, to name just a few.

8. A Man Needs a Maid
I always wanted to be Neil Young. Then one day I woke up, realized I was in my 30's and had never bothered to learn to play the guitar. But, I would still like to be Neil Young.

10. In my twenties, I was one of those people who a serious...
Edited on Tue Sep-16-03 10:48 PM by mitchum
"Keef problem" (and it's pretty funny, I have met lots of others, however we don't go to meetings or anything), but eventually said "why in the hell do I want to look like a grizzled alcoholic monkey who hasn't put out any good work in a very long time?". Seriously, he really only looked cool for about a ten-year period (1968-78) Before that he was jug-eared and rat-faced. Brian and Mick had their things down way before Keith.
When I was a teenager I thought it would be pretty cool to be Ray Davies. I was never really a big Kinks fan, but I considered:
-well, I would be very intelligent
-I would have written "Waterloo Sunset"
-very respected artist
-not recognisable enough to be bothered on the street
Little did I know that over the coming decades Ray would trash his legacy and physically age to resemble a gaunt, balding Richard Nixon

Considering how well she has aged, and how her current work is still vital: I think I would like to be Patti Smith

13. George Harrison was so cool
I'm not a musician (beyond banging cymbals in my high school marching band a few years back) but I love George's guitar work and can always spot him on other recording even when I didn't know beforehand he was the one on there. I like his music, and his outlook, and just always thought he had a really cool "look" about him, too; I used to always try to make my hair look like the picture of George that comes with the White Album but could never quite succeed. (Not to mention I couldn't have managed to look much like him anyway considering I can't grow a decent mustache! haha)

Edited on Wed Sep-17-03 03:16 PM by SiouxJ
back in the 80's. Now that would have been a kick.

Otherwise I'd go with Chrissie Hynde or Sheryl (of course ;-) ) or perhaps Nancy Wilson - yeah - now we're talkin'. Great lookin' and great licks!
