Poll question: On the occasion of my recent 10,000th post: Best version of NIGHT TRAIN?
Edited on Fri Nov-12-04 09:59 PM by NightTrain
Not that it matters, but I've listed the various versions of "Night Train" with which I'm familiar in approximate chronological order.

2. I vote for Buddy Morrow...
But then I'm probably dating myself. Think he did his boffo big band version of Night Train in about, oh, say, 1954, and I've never yet heard one that compares!

Memories!!

7. That could be one of several different versions.
Both Jimmy Forrest and the Four Blazes did it in '52, Buddy Morrow in '56. The Four Blazes' record, however, is vocal, not instrumental.

10. For me, there in only one version of "Night Train"...
and that is Rusty Bryant's version from the mid-1950s.

11. Hey, that's right! Only thing is, Rusty Bryant called his version...
..."All Night Long."

Come to think of it, there was another version of "All Night Long" out at approximately the same time, by Joe Houston.

Anyway, it's nice to know that other folks around these parts are familiar with the song that inspired my username! :yourock:

13. Rusty lived here in Columbus for many years.
During the late 70s, he played six nights a week around town. I met him through a mutual acquaintance and used to go out to hear him at least once a week. I was young and dumb enough to go to some clubs in some pretty rough areas, and he was always very protective and fatherly toward me. He had a great band which you can hear on the "Rusty Rides Again" recording.
