My former mother-in-law died this afternoon. She was a former Rockette, not real bright, but she just died of Alzheimer's, which my mother also has. We got them to give her morphine to ease her breathing, and frankly, that might be what killed her in the end. Mercifully. I hope she knew her daughter and son were there just before the end.

Peggy was a nice person. Although I will always remember going to her place just as her grand daughter was born and she cooked chili. Forgetting to boil the beans first. I lost a tooth.

My grandmother died of Alzheimer's and emphysema this summer. She was a hardcore Democrat, from the time she was a child in the Depression, right to the bitter end. I'm glad she's not suffering now, though it's a shame she couldn't hang on a little longer, cause even in the midst of that haze, I know she wanted very much to cast her ballot to get that bastard out.

I was with my mother when she died from lung cancer last year. She too was administered morphine and that did hasten her death. I was of two minds: I resented my father for ordering the morphine but I also was relieved because I know this would have been my mother's choice. She never endured minutes of unrelenting pain. It was very peaceful as she went to sleep and kept on sleeping so to speak.
With regards to mother-in-law jokes, I don't see the connection. My sister's husband was weeping as much as my brother, sister, and me. Mike was another son to my mother. I hope you were equally treasured.
