New group: Childfree DU'ers?
Hey evilDU'ers,

Just curious -- would you be interested in a group for those of us who aren't having kids? A mission statement is forthcoming if there's interest.

If you think it's a great idea, sign up!

Julie

63. I'm sorry you feel guilty about not having children.
I feel absolutely NO guilt. I never wanted kids.

I don't think it can be guaranteed (nor should it be guaranteed ) to be a rant free place. People who choose not to have kids do need a place where they can talk amongst others of like mind. Some are given a hard time by their families for choosing to be childfree (thankfully that was not my experience, my mom already has 15 grandkids she really doesn't know that well).

11. I might just drop by, on occasion.
It would be nice to discuss these issues with fellow liberals -- I have tried hanging out and reading posts on CF sites before, but somebody always has to jump in and tell you that liberals enable the 'cult of baby' with social programs, as if kids who are already here had a choice in their births, and it's their fault things are what they are in the world.

my overpopulation stickers piss people off.

Hey, I pay school taxes and have to help cover at work for the leaves granted to those doing their damnedest to expand the human burden on the planet.

And I'm tired of not being able to voice a "kids piss me off" sentiment without being dive bombed by the self appointed "everybody must love babies and must bend over backwards to make allowances for parents" police. Yechh. Plus, the way this society worships the motherhood trope, no wonder so many people with no parenting skills do it because it will get them attention and make them virtuous. OOOOoooo I could go on. Please count me in!!!

33. Mission statement rough??
Okay, here's something to edit....

The mission of the DU Childfree Group is:

To discuss all topics pertaining to the conscious decision to remain child-free. Topics will include but are not limited to, economics of being childfree, legal issues, lifetime planning, discrimination on the job, natal family issues, population control and contraception.

To help DUers understand that being childfree is not necessarily a denouncement of choosing to have children, but that the choice to bear children must be a conscious decision and the educate others on the benefits and costs of being childfree.

To provide a place for DUers to discuss all things childfree and to enjoy all things childfree.

Not married, and I don't have a significant other either, which wouldn't be so bad if other people didn't seem to find that so fucking unbelievable and disturbing. If just one more concerned older woman asks me if I'm 'okay', I think my head will explode.

I would LOVE that! Let me know...

On a board I used to frequent, there was a childless by choice area. It was fun for a while, but because it was a 'chick' board someone would always sneak in and tell us, "you may change your minds...I felt the same way--UNTIL i was blessed with my child", blah, fuckin' blah. It got old.

I'd like to go on record as NOT a child hater by any means. But when you are childless and a couple, socially it is tough. There are times when we HAVE to ask to be seated in an area w/out any. Sometimes the host/hostess smiles and nods in an understanding way. Other times they look at you like you are satan or something.

Yeeesh! LOL!

If we could voice our anger at the social pressures to have kids and to hold up some pious "all children are wonderful, and all parents are blessed" crap without getting blasted by the parturition police who feel a need to jump in on every venting thread, we wouldn't be gunning for a group of our own.

I don't want to hear about kids. I think some parents ARE bad parents and should not have had kids...we should have a right to rant about bad parenting we see out there in the world. Just because we do not have kids does not mean we do not suffer the effects of very poorly thought out breeding and parenting skills.

Just because someone has spawned does not a saint make them.

65. Description of childfree.net group
http://childfree.net

We are a group of adults who all share at least one common desire: we do not wish to have children of our own. We are teachers, doctors, business owners, authors, computer experts - you name it. We choose to call ourselves "childfree" rather than "childless," because we feel the term "childless" implies that we're missing something we want - and we aren't. We consider ourselves childFREE - free of the loss of personal freedom, money, time and energy that having children requires.

71. ChildFREE = Don't Have Them and Don't Want Any, Ever
ChildLESS is wants children but can't/doesn't have any. We are ChildFREE! Some of us are fertile, some are infertile, some are sterilized (like me!) but we all do NOT want children EVER.

As I recall from your posts, you are childless - you don't have any now, but would really like to have children. You might not feel comfortable in a childFREE group.

* has changed the world and I am not sure if i would want to put anyone through what we are going to end up with in a few years.

Can you imagine what it is going to be like in 20 years after a * reign and then if the machines aren't fixed by next time the rethugs will completely destroy what's left of this country by putting Arni in.

I'm having second thoughts about it but I know what you mean and you are right. Thanks

If you're not sure, then by all means, join the ChildFree group and we'll tell you all the great reasons for being childfree - personal, social, environmental, etc.

If, though, you just don't have children now but plan to someday ... this group might not be the best fit!
