Ethics conundrum -- HELP!!!
Edited on Sat Nov-13-04 07:10 PM by Dukakis88
I'm screwed. Here's what happened.

I was throwing a baseball at trees in the back yard and I missed and it went through a neighbor's window. I went over to the window to see if anyone was okay and when I looked in I saw that the neighbor guy was screwing my wife. I started screaming at them and he's screaming at me and he throws something at me which made me need stitches and now I'm getting divorced, and when my wife took my car to go to a motel she scraped the side on the mailbox.

So, who owes how much money to whom?

1. Can you blame this on Clinton?
If not, sue the tree.

2. Wow. You've got quite a situation on your hands.
I guess you should pay back the guy for the window, or maybe you can just deduct the cost of the window from your medical bills (it's his fault you suffered injury, even if you did break his window by accident. As for your wife, if you can't work it out (divorec should always be the last resort), get a good lawyer and at least try to get half.

3. No ethics conundrum at all...
The guy owes you punitive damages for the stitches. Depending on where you live that could be as much as $10,000 or as little as a beer.
(good beer)

Ball's in your court you hold all the cards. If any lawyer tells you something that doesn't make sense - they're being lazy.

Get a good lawyer, sue him, sue your wife. Whether you want to punish here or not - make sure you give yourself ALL the cards right away, take everything from her you can... then you can be nice at your leisure.

Good luck.

5. If there was no warning sign on the tree...
Saying that it MIGHT NOT catch everything, it's the tree's fault. Also, he may have balled your wife, but you certainly balled his window!

6. You owe the neighbor for the window. He owes you for the
stitches and followup treatment. Claim the car damage on your auto policy and call the police about getting your car back. This isn't really about ethics at all...hope you find a good lawyer fast regarding the divorce.
