Anyone here have an internationally adopted child?
We have been trying to adopt from Russia for the last 15 months. It has been a long process and we had the misfortune of trusting an agency that was not looking out for our best interests. Anyone else had experience with this?

1. Can I ask why you're not adopting from the US?
I always wonder this.
I would assume it would be cheaper and easier to find a child in this country, and there are certainly children waiting.

I'm sorry you had difficulty with that agency...
I hope you find your child soon, wherever he or she may be.

3. I often wonder that as well
Not to impugn the motives of this particular adoption, but so many people adopt from overseas that it makes me wonder--is it more fasionable? Less of a stigma?

6. I want to help an orphan!
It costs thousands of dollars and we thought the money was better spent this way then pursuing fertilty treatments. Believe me we've been through a lot of heartbreak. We are not trying to be fashionable!

4. the reasons we are not adopting here include
We have a 6 yo daughter and would like for her to maintain her position in our family as the oldest child. Many children for adoption here have siblings and it is difficult to find one young child to adopt. To adopt here many people become foster parents first which I would not mind doing but I work three days a week as an RN and would want to be at home full time to foster parent and give these kids the attention they need. Also the thought of birth parents changing their minds or a judge returning parental rights to parents would break our hearts and believe me there has been too much sadness in this 4 year journey as it is.

9. Thanks for answering...
I know you are going through an exhausting and tough time, and obviously you have done more than a bit of homework on a solution that would work best for your family.

I've just been hearing so much lately about people adopting from Russia and Asian countries in particular that I'm always curious what's going on there.

Again, good luck!

5. Not personally,
But I know of two families who did adopt from Russia. Both went through chaos but ended up with wonderful kids.

My daughter is from Viet Nam, She turned 30 this year. It was a great experience. We used http://www.holtintl.org/oldbrowser.shtml
They work in Romania and Bulgaria and 10 other countries. I don't think they are working in Russia.

They've been doing foreign adoptions for decades and their integrity is unimpeachable. Blessings on your journey!
