Master and commander--- worth a watch or what?

6. Definitely worth watching, I enjoyed it immensely.

The naval battle scenes are exceptionally well done.

If you have a decent surround sound system, it's even more worth watching. It won an Academy Award for best sound, and most definitely earned it. You can hear every little creak of wood and splash of water hitting the ship while people are below decks.

So yeah, it's good :)

10. Yeah, it's pretty good

The director knows how to move the picture along. Russell Crowe gives a great performance. The imagery in the movie is great. The critics gave it good reviews. Some people I know got a little bored with the sea, but I give the picture 3 out of 4 stars.

But I liked it too. It's gonna have more appeal to people who like Merchant/Ivory type films; it's got a subtle anti-war message which is a twist. The pace is slower; more like "Amistad".
