5. I love your Jefferson quote
It's so true...and that's precisely why the Republicans are so against education. Whenever I visit my parents, I feel like slapping my old teachers - their union has been striking for 4 years yet they consistently support Republicans who run on a platform of slashing the education budget.

for the record, I'm no heathen, I'm just a cafeteria catholic who will burn in hell for voting for "baby killers" like John Kerry O8)

13. Teachers supporting Republicans
I too am surprised by the many teachers who complain about their classroom budgets, testing mandates, and salaries, but who continue to vote BushCo (we're double whammied here in Florida). When I ask them why, the usually say something like GW Bush talks like a regular guy.

It's more disturbing when one realizes that GW is the typical student that teachers can't stand. Smug and arrogant, doesn't study or do homework, never admits mistakes or responsibility, mean-spirited toward classmates, sabotages cooperative learning, and is enabled by his parents.

14. I suppose that to neo-cons and Bible-Belt bible-thumpers I'm a heathen.
People certainly didn't create the universe, so I believe something greater than humanity is at work out there. But I don't subscribe to the Torah, Koran, or most of the Bible - or, in any of the Bible in any literal sense. They are mere historical and cultural documents to me which have, for the most part had a pernicious effect on human behavior and history.

So a devout fundie of any stripe, surely must see someone like me as "heathen". And for that I make no apologies.
