I was so worried it would never come out on CD. It, along with John Kongos and Sparks and Doll by Doll, was one of the great ignored vinyl treasures never on CD until a few years ago. She's a freaking genius. I am adding my now standard pitch: Please buy Por Vida: A Tribute to Alejandro Escovedo, one of the best CDs ever released. Stevie Earle, Lucinda Williams, Cowboy Junkies, John Cale, Los Lonely Boys and much more doing kick-ass versions of his music, and raising money for a liver transplant. $15 for two discs of joy, and $3 of each purchase goes directly to him, along with the songwriting royalties. Hep C is a killer, so if you can do it, check it out.
Speaking of ignored treasures, someone has to release Doll by Doll and Forever More, two genius bands. Doll by Doll is caught up in legal disputes, but Cookin Vinyl has the rights and should put them out sometime soon. Jackie Leven, the lead singer, is still active and has reformed the band from time to time. If you wonder what Van Morrison would sound like if he had a punk-influenced guitar band behind him, that is Doll by Doll.
As for Forever More, they morphed into the totally unlike band Average White Band. But at the time, they were very Beatle-ish. Their album Words on Black Plastic is a classic, and their first one, Yours, is a great record too. Anyone wanna front me the money to buy the rights from RCA?
