So I yelled something to the young couple in their *-stickered car...
"Power of Oil" bumper sticker with a red/white/blue wavy stripe and "farmers for Bush" with more r/w/b jingoistic nonsense. There were others, but I couldn't stomach looking at it any longer.

Both kiddies were early 20s and had that early 20s style goin' on.

Upon leaving the gas station, I rolled down the window and yelled "I hope you don't get drafted!" as she stood there, bemused. (she probably thinks * won't instate a draft, which is inevitable given the current and upcoming circumstances.)

Then I got to the bookstore, and just about threw up. Noticing a couple fondle each others behinds in public is bad enough, but there's this one couple (also hetero) that didn't bother to go into the restroom together to get their feelings sorted out and satisfied; they simply had to do their foreplaying in some corner where they thought nobody would see them, security cameras not excepted. Sadly, they chose the "sci-fi" and later "non-fictional TV" sections so I unfortunately got the privilege of watching them undulate twice. :puke: (I noticed other people, mostly those twice my age, also noticing those thoughtless ragamuffins twiddle in public and turning away in disgust. One of them went to the floor clerk as well, thank goodness... it's a bookstore, not a brothel!)

Thank goodness for corn chips, salsa, and "Blake's 7". :D

3. What is it about youth
The lack of experience, the lack of education, the hormones. Amok time to be sure. I often ponder this rise in conservatism. It must be the older generation, those too afraid and rigid to change. The younger generation will change all this madness, I think to myself. As your anecdote points out, this is not the case. There is an upsurge of republican groups on campus, increase in young conservative groups, and an abundance of Chimp propaganda bumper stickers on vehicles driven by those too young to know generation X.
I fear it will take a lot of pain for this demographic to wake up, unfortunately, a lot of pain is likely with a Chimp second term.

5. Or too young to think outside the box...
While I hate people pinching their sponges in public, the naivity of today's youth is even more aggrevating. They've fallen for the neo-conservative lies, are too young to think that the offshoring and other corporate developments will have an effect on them, and really think that * and his ilk are really going to protect them and ensure they live the American dream too.

Pity.

If "Generation X" is justly rechristened to "Generation Cheney'd" (for "Cheney'd" read 'Fucked'), what is today's generation to be called? Generation Gray Duck? Generation Finito? Generation Gullible?

7. No kidding.
I think we're due for a reality check by 2008, if not sooner. Young people are soon going to realize that their parents' generation threw a big party and left them with a bunch of empty kegs -- and the bills. There's a real horse race right now between Peak Oil and Economic Collapse. I'm not sure that I want to bet which one of these beauties crosses the finish line first, though it looks like Economic Collapse has a slight lead. Either way, we're all going to lose. Big time.

6. Here's the other avatar pics' definitions:
Edited on Sun Nov-14-04 12:37 AM by HypnoToad
* A purple peep smoking a cigarette (I've waaaaaaaaay too much time on my hands...)
* The gay symbol (thanks to Hitler for creating that pink triangle)
* The 6th Doctor

I'm soon to change it. Having just watched a long "Blake's 7" marathon, it's almost frightning to watch a 25 year old BBC sci-fi program whose political and fascist subplots are loosely similar to what could happen in the country that claims it cannot happen to.

Happy belated Birthday, BTW! (I skimmed through some of yesterday's posts)

I hope we can watch you being beheaded live on the internet, punks, after they draft you miserable asses. My daughter, who is as prim as they come, gave them the finger as they drove off.
