Anybody else love Vermont Country Store?

I ordered most of my Christmas presents last night.. got stumped on an oredering protocol..clicked on help, and immediately got help.. a real live person (probably NOT in India)..she stayed with me until I told her the order was completed..

They have the coolest stuff..

I always order Lanz nightgowns from them (no one in my town carries them ).. Guys..If your wife likes flannel nightgowns.. These are the ferraris of flannel nightgowns...and they last forEVER :)

21. That wasn't my experience with Lanz nightgowns.

Mine used to rip out under the armpits in short order. And rip overall within a couple of years. I've gotten some nightgowns on sale at Kmart for under $10 that have held up much better.

27. The thing I love about them is that you can sit cross-legged

and not had to pull them up to do it..

You should have written them and gotten a replacement.. I have one old one that I wore in COLLEGE.. It's a bit thin these days, but the colors are still bright... I was in college in 1968... (and yes.. I do have issues with tossing old things away :)..)

5. I think $50 for a flannel nightgown is pretty expensive.

And $49 for Evening in Paris perfume. That used to be the cheapest perfume available when I was a kid. You could buy it for $2 in the five and dime stores.

6. Nooooooo.. Lanz gowns last FOREVER..they never shrink or twist

and they are sooooo soft and comfy...

and yes..evening in paris "was" cheap, but this place specializes in stuff you "used to be able to get"..but no one carries anymore :)


and they have lots of really cool toys from years back..not plastic replicas of them..the real deal..

What folks don't realize, is that lots of these things did not cease to be..stores just started carrying the plastic junk and pushed the quality stuff off the inventory..

I love the Lanz nightgowns, too. I've found that Hechts (Mays) has them (and other high-quality flannel nightgowns & pjs) on sale at the end of the season for around $20-$25... So I tend to wait for the chep-o price. :hi:

sizes.. I always buy them big, so they are extra comfy.. Most places here do not carry them, because they cost more..

11. That's what's cool ....those brands still exist..

Sometimes these were small family-owned brands who resisted corporate takeovers.. Once on shelves, without the backing of the big companies, they could no longer get shelf space..

Lots of people do not know that corporations PAY stores to display their merchandise.. They atually "buy" shelf space by the foot.. If smaller brands cannot pony up more cash, they get "discontinued"...not because they did not sell..but because Procter & Gamble "outbid" them...or made the store an offer they could not refuse..

19. AND the corporations' products

get the prime spots at eye levels where they sell the best. Those with smaller pocketbooks are relegated to the very bottom or very top where they're harder to find.

I saw a feature on Dateline or something a few years back and was shocked. I'd had no idea!

15. It's a fun drive to Vermont Country Store. Once a year...

...we take that drive. It's out in the middle o' nowhere (as is much of Vermont). Shoppers can wander through so much STUFF. It boggles the mind!

I love all the "old" (geez, since my childhood does NOT seem so long ago I have real trouble with that word) candies. Blackjack gum reminds me of my departed dad. I stock up. Also get my husband a tin of Necco wafers, even though they've since cropped up on the checkout line of most major markets.

The games and toys are fun. Many simple, yet creative ideas for kids of all ages.

We will probably be taking that drive in the next couple weeks.

They have such cool old stuff--and some cool newer stuff too. I remember, a number of years ago, ordering an "air freshener" that's all natural, made from oranges. That was the only place I saw it. Now I see it in places like Whole Foods. I love that stuff--because I have birds, and the chemical air fresheners can be harmful to them. The smell of garlic sickens me, and I used to live downstairs from folks who cooked with it often. That orange scent did the trick.
