Who has Thanksgiving plans they care to share? |
|
As for me, we are going to San Francisco to see my brother and his family. We have had a hard couple of years here, lost my mom, my sister-in-law, my dad this August and several very good friends, so we are looking forward to getting away. Anybody else?

1. Sorry for your losses. |

It sounds like you need a getaway. As for us, we'll be hosting my fundie stepson and his fundie bride who looooove Bush and Iraq. Maybe I'll have some enlistment papers ready and see if they want to spend Christmas in Fallujah...

stuffed with tangerines, prunes and chestnuts, glazed with a cognac reduction after roasting; served with a turnip gratin with lots of melted gruyere, along with sauteed red cabbage and apples spiked with star anise. Serve a new, refreshing Mersault with that and a blueberry tarts for dessert.

I don't see either one of the 'Pukes that often.
To give you an idea of just HOW right-wing they are...one of them has stated that Fox is too LIBERAL!

You are a good person for helping them when you really want to be home.
At least you should get some serious pay for the day.

Which should be interesting, since it's the first visit she's made since "The Rift." We got in a huge fight last year and she removed me from the will after I told her I wanted every financial tie between us severed.
My mom has severe control issues, but is now a Democrat. So we won't be arguing about politics, just everything else. I'm looking forward to the visit about as much as brain surgery. With the exception of an antiquing expedition to McKinney, which is always fun, and the holiday cooking, which I always love, my teeth will be on edge all weekend.
On the menu: Warm Goat Cheese Toasts w/Rosemary, Walnuts, and Honey Herb Salad with Persimmons & Hazelnuts Roast Turkey with Prosciutto-Hazelnut Crust Double Sausage Stuffing Popovers with Sage Butter Green Bean Casserole Cranberry Orange Relish Twice Baked Potatoes w/Goat Cheese & Chives Cranberry Orange cheesecake w/Chocolate Crust
Can you tell I've been scouring my old Bon Apetits?

but I'm not that fancy about it. No chutney or endive or anything odd. Plain old yankee home cookin for me. If I put a scallion or porcino mushroom in the broth, I must have been feeling exotic.

...as kids we always played after dinner, so the grownups could sit around and talk. Now we are sitting around talking while our kids play. Wonder which little girl will be the football this year?

18. I'm sorry for your losses. |
|
I hope you'll have a good trip and a nice stay with your brother.
We plan to just be us - my husband and I and our three kids - for Thanksgiving. I was very ill with an advanced kidney infection last Thanksgiving, so we're hoping for a quiet but pleasant holiday this year. I plan on doing the traditional dinner - turkey, stuffing, potatoes, homemade cranberry sauce, lefse, veggies, pie - the whole nine yards.
Our families are back in Minnesota.

21. Hope you are feeling better this year. |

And thank you for your kind thoughts. I had taken over hosting Thanksgiving when my mom passed, but since we are in VA and it seems as though my brother, his wife, and their three have to travel here all the time, we thought we would give them a chance to have a holiday at home. We are so looking forward to it. My husband's side of the family doesn't have any grandchildren, so my brothers' children are the only ones my kids have. We are trying to keep the ties close.

20. We are going to Cleveland... |
|
to visit my husband's family. It's the tradition. FIL is 90, MIL is 82, so every holiday with them is special because we don't know if there will be another one. We'll be having turkey, the worst stuffing ever put on a plate (MIL is a wonderful cook, but she just cannot do stuffing), sweet potatoes, one of my SIL's amazing cheesecakes. And probably no veggies. These people don't eat veggies. Drives me crazy. One time I asked about veggies, and MIL put some pickles on a plate and put them on the table... After spending a couple days with his parents, my husband and I come home and binge on broccoli. :D
Please accept my condolences on the loss of your friends and family members. I hope happier times are ahead for you.

24. Going to NJ to be with family |
|
My grandmother, aunt, uncle, and bunch of my cousins all live on the same block in Bergenfield, NJ. I'm going down by Grayhound and crashing there for five days. Since I'm the oldest of the kids, that means shopping and being showered with affection and best off all- HOME COOKED MEALS!! I've forgotten what a home cooked meal tastes like :)

25. Family dinner hosted by my husband's nephew |
|
Probably about 17 adult people and three small people. My husband's two nephews live practically next door to each other so we have the use of two stoves to warm things up etc.
The nephews will cajun fry the turkey and everybody else will bring something.
I am taking squash casserole, fresh asparagus and maybe a dessert of some kind or maybe home made rolls
We usually have a ton of food.
Mashed potatoes green beans squash cass asparagus sweet potatoes stuffing mexican stuffed peppers (made by my niece in law who is from Mexico) salad of some kind deviled eggs pumpkin pie pecan pie or some other dessert thing
some years I make hot rolls to bake at dinner, and probably will do that instead of dessert, as we often have too many desserts.
they always want to tear through dinner so they can watch the Cowboys game from the kickoff. The one year I hosted I had dinner @ 7 pm to get away from that and we all sat down together at the same tables. (I put my three dining tables end to end)
It will be fun and loud and I may kidnap the kids and take them to a movie.
