How good are Averatec laptops? |
|
I'd like to get one for work with at least 512 mb Ram, 40+ gig hard drive, CD/DVD burner and of course a decent screen and also WiFi ready. I've seen them on the 'net and was just wondering what the quality was and don't have a lot to spend. Are there whiteboxes out there that would do the job? Thanks.

It's a real cute little thing. It's a second computer not the main one but I've had it since around August and it's been just fine. Screen is good but it is small. I was looking for something lightweight and not expensive so it has worked out well for me so far. The wifi is good but does cut out now and again and it works better on one side of the house I don't know if it is the bearing wall that lowers it or what. Apple has a little one too that wasn't very expensive. If you are a student they have good discounts. Right now the desktop is giving me all kinds of grief with SP2 so I sure am glad I got the Avaratec.

Thanks for your point of view. That's what I was looking for before I plunked down some cash.

3. Are they especially economical? |
|
I might be interested. Mostly what I would want would be publishing, DVD, or CD burner, internet. That's it, really. Might watch some media, but I can't see sitting at the computer to watch a movie.

4. Would work well for that |

but not too great for the media stuff. The speakers are weak on the thing. It is a laptop so I guess it's to be expected. I can listen to AAR but I guess I'm used to the sound from the desktop which is infinitely better. It really is nice to take it out on the deck or to Panera where they have the wifi. For under 1k though it was worth it. I just couldn't plop down over 3k for the little Sony and wanted something lightweight, it's only about 3-4lbs.
