36. OK. EVERYBODY STOP IT NOW.
My first girlfriend in highschool looked exactly like Donna on "That 70's Show". She loved macrame (sp?) and aromatherapy. I can still smell the patchouli.

This thread is making me horny for my youth. So, at least keep it political.

HIPPIE CHICKS RULE.

...I couldn't help but be a hippie. But then punk came along, whacked me upside the head, and changed everything.

I still hold the values and ideals of both very dearly. As Popeye would say, I yam what I yam. Only with two mortgages and less "mohawk".

And who's Lisa? A poster here? Don't you mean "Moonbeam_Starlight"? If she ain't a hippie, the myth - and my deep fantasies of her - are shattered.

38. Still a freak at heart!! The best of times and the worst of times.
Remember what Wavy Gravy said "There's always a little heaven in a disaster area!" That's how I remember the 60's. Our little heaven in a disaster area.

We have to realize that what's going on now is the 60's straights trying to get their revenge on us. It's the same players. Unfortunately, some of our crowd have gone over to the dark side in these ensuing years -- either too rich or pulled into fundamentalism.

BUT, we've got a whole new crew of open minded, freedom loving, free thinking rebels that have joined the ranks -- three of them are my kids. The key to the movement in the 60's was organization and publicity. We've got to have a new mantra -- and this time include the women. So many of the hippie dudes were completely sexist then, but hopefully have had their third eyes "squeegied quite clean," as Bill Hicks would say.

The media is not on our side. The media is purposefully ignoring us. The massive march in NY before the RNC will testify to that -- only C-Span seemed to be aware of it. But, hey, I'm still truckin' ....

He has long hair, smokes pot, is liberal, and enjoys making art and playing music. He really hates it when people call him a hippy unless the people calling him that might be considered a hippy. His reasoning is that most people call him that do so derogatorily.

55. I've been called a hippie...
...with reason. A couple years ago, I started growing my hair back and it's now longer than it has ever been before in my life, even when I was a young hippie. The hippie scene has never gone away —think of the Rainbow Family, for example — though it stopped being trendy in the media long ago (thank Goddess for that, just leave us alone).

In 2002 I finally said to myself, fuck it, there's no reason to keep getting haircuts any more if I want to let my freak flag fly. Now it's halfway down to my waist and... the earth's the limit!

The media player visualizations on your computer now give us trippier psychedelic light shows than they ever had in the Fillmore. Only thing really missing these days is the LSD.

But, on the positive side, grow-your-own psilocybe spores are now more available than they were back in the day.

Like mushrooms, the hippie consciousness is mostly below ground in today's world, like a mycelium extending all over the place underground, it's always there, even if you don't see it. Once in a while it does raise a fruiting body that pokes its head up above ground. We latter-day freaks are those fruiting bodies! Let's SPORE all over America again!
