2. Here's my crazy scheme |
|
I want to get a p2p program, but not have to worry about the spyware. So, if I can get a windows emulator, only the emulator file will be corrupted

4. Boot manager, 2nd install of Windows. |
|
Will take care of that issue.
If you're worried about spyware get Spybot/Ad Aware, keep your AV up-to-date and stop using IE and you'll be fine. I recommend eMule.

6. spy boot search and distroy is my faviorate spyware remover |
|
I also like symatec, for anti virus
the best thing you can do with the p2p program is change the default locations for all you downloaded programs, then any virus or spyware wont look for your computer.
instead of share or download or data as a name, use something else like sh*t i download.

8. so you're looking for a sandbox? |
|
The most secure way would probably be a cd-bootable OS (either Windows or Linux) working with a ramdisk and small partition (or an USB storage stick). here: http://www.heise.de/ct/english/99/11/206/or http://www.knoppix.org/

3. You mean an x-windows emulator maybe? |
|
Hummingbird had a good one. May be pricey though.

5. Several solutions come |
|
to mind.
The easiest is to use WinXP. It is p2p and spyware free unless someone is mean enough to put them in the files you download (hasn't happened yet).
Also, Kazaa Lite (no longer available) is still on a mirror site called oldversions.com. It does not contain spyware.
My solutions are for guys who are not so tech aware. Ther are others including dual boot systems.

7. I used to run a slim windows98 inside a virtual machine |
|
in windows 2000 to accomodate winmx without much risk to the host machine. Now, I don't know if I trust VMware to protect the host machine anymore. I use linux now, and I can install and run VMware to run any flavor of windows under my linux system, but haven't found any reason to do so. ;-)
