NC'linians! Breezes are kickin' and Easley says Patriot Act was Big Help!
Okay it's gusting here in Raleigh....with lots of "dead air" presumably the air being "sucked" into the advancing behometh of Isobel......

Our DEMOCRATIC Govenor, Mike Easley gave a press conference and reporter asked about his declaring a "state of emergency" before an emergency.....and Easley said: "Partly due to the Patriot Act we've been able to cut the red tape and co-ordinate here in NC better than other Governors have in states which haven't allowed their Govenors to do this......and we now have access to Federal Funds and could "mobilize our National Guard, and relief agencies to come together much quicker than we would have without this." (paraphrase of what I heard)

Help me here....fellow DU/NC'linians.........if you heard the press conference where Easley talked about this and deferred to his "Homeland Security" person.......

He's giving another Press Conference Live at 8:00 p.m. on our local channels: WRAL, etc.

Please watch and post on this thread.

It struck me that Easley felt it was a good thing that Homeland Security had "relaxed restrictions" on Govenors calling out National Guard and Mobilizing Police and Relief Agencies.... In the past when States have had massive local disasters..they have, indeed, had much "red tape" to cut to get clearance and funds......

But, since I don't trust anything about Bush's HOMELAND SECURITY.......I am naturally suspicious.

1. Heard a report on NPR earlier today...
...emphasizing that the patriot act was NOT INTENDED for domestic issues, but to combat terrorism. States are beginning to say they've had an easier job doing this or that because of Act. NOT WHAT ASS-CLOWN SAID IT WAS INTENDED FOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3. Here's my "Upbeat....unexpected law of unintended consequences" view of
Easley's conference......

If a state has a Democratic Govenor.....like NC then when Asscroft/Bush really start to do their NAZI THING then Easley can immediatly call in the MILITIA to THWART the FEDS!

Honest to God......that's what I thought when I heard Easley say that. I was hearing that STATES RIGHTS would come into play in a way that Bush/Asscroft NEVER THOUGHT WOULD HAPPEN. By giving power to Easley....it's power to those who elected him!

Now, in states with Repug Govenors....this might be a detriment......but with our DEM GOVENORS......it could be a "good thing."

6. Unless the Feds pull another trick like LBJ on Wallace
When governor George Wallace used the national guard troops in a fashion that Johnson disapproved, Johnson federalized his troops. It's scary how with a stroke of a pen that can happen.

7. I know he is, on both counts
but praising the unpatriotic act makes him a true Lieberman in my book. Screw him.

And yes, almost ALL of our NG troops are out of state on baby bush's big adventure. We're F*CKED if this storm hits hard.
