The history of the holiday is very disturbing. Personally, it bothers me that Americans only give a shit about feeding the hungry on one day of the year.

2. Yes. It is a celebration of genocide.. |
|
conveniently cloaked in hearth, home and religion. I reject it. Entirely. I am fasting this year on Thanksgiving and contemplating the lost souls in Iraq and the lost souls of our soldiers who will live with the nightmare for the rest of their lives. This is not an anti troop statement, BTW. I will celebrate the rich history of the indigenous tribes of this continent with prayer and offer thanksgiving for what is left of their rich legacy. In fact, I think I may post this as a new thread and see what others think.....Peace.

It's my favorite holiday because I like cooking big meals.
Why don't you volunteer down at your local Salvation Army or homeless shelter.

5. The horrible thing about it is... |
|
...that that is one day of niceness and the rest of the time, the Natives are sub-human.

6. I am sorry that you are so sad |

...I don't think of the history to be honest with you. My mom always did Thanksgiving and we had a big dinner with family and it was a great feeling. We are all on the same page politically, religously, etc, so there was never that angst associated with it. Now that my mom is gone, I am trying to maneuver my way into being the Thanksgiving maven. If you lived close to me, I would invite you.

7. I'm not too fond of Thanksgiving |
|
it seems to me that in the days of food that was spare and not too interesting a feast would be a great celebration. Now as people have so much to choose from it seems like overkill.
I sometimes go to Canada on Thanksgiving, and the ferry I take to get there is always packed with other Americans so I guess I am not alone.

As Bill Maher said, it's like a rapist saying, "I know I did some bad things, but I'd really like to focus on the pleasant dinner we had at the BEGINNING of the evening, and not all that stuff that happened after." :eyes:

Wherever you are, whatever is going on, on this day, and others when you feel this way, GIVE. Give something, time or talent or treasure as is said, to someone or something else-even if they aren't obviously in need. When people feel as we do, we are being called to give. I believe this. Peace.

12. I'm ok with Thanksgiving, it's Christmas I hate |
|
I'm a vegetarian, so the turkey details are a bit much, but in general Thanksgiving is ok for me. It's actually the only holiday that I've never missed going home for. I gave up on Christmas years ago and the family has given up asking me if I'm coming.

15. I can't handle the obligations to show up for dinners I don't enjoy |
|
I never really liked Thanksgiving because my entire clan, beginning with dad, ended up with our faces in our plates due to over consumption of wine coolers and Uncle always always always showed up inebriated and puked all over the carpeted stairs leading to the upstairs bedrooms.
I'm now thankful that I don't have to associate with family because most of them are in either heaven, or hell.
