"Garden State" or "Eternal Sunshine" - best pictures of the year |
|
I've concluded that probably nothing is going to surpass Garden State this year. That movie was a perfect story of awakening- and the use of music was also brilliant. Eternal Sunshine is a close second, and it makes up for (IMO) slow moments with the cleaver story. What say you to this DUers? Either one of these have a shot at Best Picture?

4. That's why I liked Garden State... |
|
...the symbolism of being in a numbed state (the anti-anxiety drugs representing this new generation where feelings are seen as "bad") and then awakening with first love- ohhh man, brilliant!

2. I haven't seen "Garden State" but |

I just saw "Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind" and I really liked it. Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet both did an excellent job.
I thought I would like it cause I liked "Adaptation" by Charlie Kaufman, too.

5. I enjoyed both of them immensely |

Garden State was great for a first time director and you're right - the soundtrack is amazing.
However, I think Eternal Sunshine had a lot more depth and was such a unique story that it gets my vote.

6. Garden State, without a doubt |
|
Sat thru that movie with a certain slacker writer :loveya: and we were both mesmerized ... 'This is our lives'.
He has found the courage to face his issues and has gone into detox, and will go on to counseling. I think in part, because of the message of the movie.
It was so simple, yet so powerful. Beautiful. And said so much, without needing to YELL it at the audience.
