14. Ann Bancroft
Edited on Tue Nov-16-04 12:11 AM by Dookus
tries to seduce Dustin Hoffman. Then, he meets a young southern hustler, played by Jon Voigt and they go to NY. After that, he goes to England where a gang of thugs tries to take over the house.

Somehow, he finds himself on Devil's Island, and being arrested for profanity in his standup comedy routines. Laurence Olivier tries to extract secrets from him by drilling his teeth, but he escapes by marrying Meryl Streep and learning to care for their son, while undergoing a nasty divorce. Eventually, he becomes a transvestite soap opera star.

24. it IS a great movie
The dorky plot was to be counterbalanced by the subtle imagery which was supposed to make you think and complete the message of the film.
Best subtle scene: Benjamin reluctantly comes downstairs from his bedroom to meet the guests. He hugs the vertical panels separating the kitchen from the living room. He sees a different person in each "panel-frame." Then we see HER! smoking and checking him out - you can read her face (of course "her" is the infamous Mrs. Robinson.)

30. Elaine!

Elaine!

Saw a prop comedian once who parodied the entire movie in his act, using a clear, plastic window-like thing. I rolled in the floor, and no one who was watching with me understood it.

His summary of the movie was to take the piece of plastic, put it up in front of his face, knock on it desperately, and shout "Elaine!"

Guess ya had to be there. :-)

11. Doo doo doo doo, Mrs. Robinson.
Plastics. The future is in plastics.

Coming of age angst, sex with your almost-girlfriend's mom, a ride up the California coast in a convertible with Simon and Garfunkle on the stereo, interrupting the wedding with "NOOOOOO" and slamming on the glass window, then running away in the back of the bus.

There ya go, wasn't that helpful?

I've seen that movie twice and I still don't get the point. Why was it such a great movie anyway?

and granted, the movie was a little dated toward the times. Although the theme is quite timeless.

15. ...and, most importantly, "plastics"
We'd like to know
A little bit about you
For our files.
We'd like to help you learn
To help yourself.
Look around you. All you see
Are sympathetic eyes.
Stroll around the grounds
Until you feel at home.

And here's to you, Mrs. Robinson,
Jesus loves you more than you will know (Wo wo wo).
God bless you, please, Mrs. Robinson,
Heaven holds a place for those who pray (Hey hey hey, hey hey hey).

Hide it in a hiding place
Where no one ever goes.
Put it in you pantry with your cupcakes.
It's a little secret,
Just the Robinsons' affair.
Most of all, you've got to hide it
from the kids.

Coo coo ca-choo, Mrs. Robinson,
Jesus loves you more than you will know (Wo wo wo).

God bless you, please, Mrs. Robinson,
Heaven holds a place for those who pray (Hey hey hey, hey hey hey).

Sitting on a sofa
On a Sunday afternoon,
Going to the candidates' debate,
Laugh about it,
Shout about it,
When you've got to choose,
Every way you look at it you lose.

Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio?
A nation turns its lonely eyes to you (Ooo ooo ooo).

What's that you say, Mrs. Robinson?
"Joltin' Joe has left and gone away" (Hey hey hey, hey hey hey).

17. well, first the play that "and here's to you, mrs. robinson" song
then there's some nifty albeit dorky acting by a very young dustin hoffman.

then they play the mrs. robinson song again.

dustin says "mrs. robinson you're trying to seduce me"

then they play the mrs. robinson song again.

that old guy gives his one word advice: "plastics"

they play the mrs. robinson song yet again.

then dustin hoffman disrupts a wedding and steals the bridge as they play that mrs. robinson song one last time.

great movie.
classic.

18. Ok, so this young dude has a really hot girlfriend. Her mother
looks like a hoe but wears really kinky stockings (the type with the line down the back) with a garter belt. The young dude can't resist and he and the mother do the nasty. The girlfriend finds out and decides to marry some other guy in Santa Barbara. The young dude shows up at the wedding and Kirk's Out big time. Having longed for some sexual contact with her mother for years and realizing she can do this vicariously with the young dude, the girl leaves the alter and joins the dude on a Santa Barbara city bus where they have strange sex in the back of the bus in full view of the other passengers (in the uncut edition). That's it.

31. I hate to quibble but this is not quite correct.....
Dustin Hoffman doesn't have the girlfriend to begin with. He gets seduced by Mrs. Robinson and THEN he gets forced to take Elaine (the daughter) out by well-meaning meddlers who don't realize that he is already porking Mrs. Robinson (or maybe they do know, come to think of it...) anyway Mrs. Robinson says "don't you dare take my daughter out on a date that would be sick" or something like that but Dustin gets nagged into doing it anyway. He takes the girl to a strip joint in an effort to show her a really lousy time but she gets upset and runs out and since he's basically a nice guy he follows and makes it up to her by buying her a burger and they realize that they like each other and then Mrs. Robinson gets mad so she and Dustin stop seeing each other. Unfortunately eventually Elaine finds out he used to pork her mom (I think maybe mom spills the beans - she's vindictive) and so Elaine is grossed out (understandably) and decides to marry this other guy....

carry on

34. Well, yardwork, it was one of those '60's things. It all made sense
at the time. I am sure about the claim that the daughter had a strong attraction to her mother. They had that vibe. As Jerry Garcia said, "If you remember the 60's, you weren't there." Thanks for the enlightenment. But, hey, wasn't the strip joint thing really that scene from 'Taxi Driver' where Robert DiNero takes what's her name to a porn movie in NYC. Or maybe it was Andy Kaufman.

27. This request reminds of that MASH episode...
where Radar was looking for pointers on dating a girl who was into Classical Music. "What if she asks about Bach? What can I say about Bach to sound smart"... "Just nod your head, smile, and say 'Ahh, BACH!".

The movie has so many levels, that if you try to fake someone out they'll know instantly that you never saw it. Your best bet is to say "I watched it, but I didn't really get it."

Personally, I still like the party where his parents put him on display with the diving outfit in the pool. WHAT A GREAT MOVIE!!!!

The movie is about Free Will vs Family Tradition. His parents ( and their friends) have his entire future mapped out for him, whether he likes it or not. After all, they know what's best for him (sounds like the Repugs, huh?). His father's partner's bored token wife (Ann Bancroft) makes him a sexual offer he can't refuse (at least, I wouldn't have refused!). Then, when his father and his father's partner decide that he and his father's partner's daughter (who the partner just wants to "marry off" to an "appropriate husband") would "make a good couple", Ann gets very possesive of her new "toy" but can't argue against it in public (sounds more like the Repugs as we go along, doesn't it?!). So, she puts the pressure on poor Dustin to "make sure it doesn't work." Hence, he takes her to a strip club on their first date and treats her like shit to turn her off. He feels guilty, and then gets to know her, and finds out he actually likes her. Yadda Yadda Yadda, Ann plays her games, the father finds a new "appropriate husband", Dustin sorts out his emotions...,
Dustin figures out he's actually in love, stops the arranged marriage in the middle of the ceremony by banging on the sound-proof glass in the balcony of the chapel (a metaphor that "true love can't be silenced"), and he and his true love out run all the Families crying out to follow Traditions and hop a city bus to try and find their own destinies, together.
An inspiring message for all who wish to think for themselves, despite what the "establishment" tries to tell you.

OK - now that I've helped you CHEAT on your homework, maybe now you'll actually WATCH the damn movie!!!! It's really worth your time. Oh, and also rent Dustin Hoffman's "Little Big Man", about a boy raised by Native Americans and then forced to "reintegrate" into the White Man's world. If this movie doesn't touch your soul, then you have no soul to be touched!!!!
