Vets and active soldiers: I support you today, too. |
|
I am just out of GD and boy, am I pissed. It wasn't even a week ago that we were having lovefests in here for our vets and active duty soldiers. On Veterans Day, everyone supported the troops.
Well, now with this latest news out of Fallujah, they're singing a whole different song in there. Marines are murderers, etc.
I wonder if any of them were there. I wonder if any of them could know what was going on outside the narrow confines of what the camera caught.
The war is wrong. We all know that. But our troops are engaged and committed. I will support them until I have a reason not to. That is all.

1. What is going on in Iraq |
|
with soldiers possibly turned murderers simply illustrates that war should not be used a political tool. It turns good people into killers on both sides.

2. ONE marine is a murderer. |
|
The Marines have criminals just like every other profession. It's just a fact of life and in no way reflects on the US Marine Corps.

3. War brings out all that is most noble and most vile in man... |
|
Such has always been the case. This is no different.
War can propel seemingly ordinary men to completely unordinary displays of heroism. It also, by its violent and vile nature, brings out the worst impulses of man in seemingly inhuman ways.
This, along with the inhuman acts at Abu Ghraib, are proof of the latter. While this is by no means representative of the character of those in the armed forces as a whole, it IS an indictment against the effects of war on those subjected to fight it, as a whole.

5. I do not support the war. |
|
I never have. I do not support murder. I am a pacifist.
I don't care if you are an honorably discharged veteran. You are being a jerk and putting words in my mouth. Shove off, won't you?

8. You're not a fascist, but you're repeating their meme |
|
I've been sick of hearing this since '91, and a lot of Germans in Nazi Germany probably did too.
It's a damned lie. Get it out of your head. Your "support" means nothing to the people fighting over there. It just dulls your own sense of outrage.
