Can anyone tell me what is wrong with this biblical sequence of events? |
|
7:19 And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch out thine hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their streams, upon their rivers, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and that there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone.
7:20 And Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.
7:21 And the fish that was in the river died; and the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river; and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt.
7:22 And the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments: and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, neither did he hearken unto them; as the LORD had said.

1. I have no way of knowing if this really happened |
|
Its a great story but as they say " where is the link ? " and I don't mean any of the several versions of the bible that are knocking about.
That is my problem with this tale. Just like Porgy and Bes, I take the stance that " It Aint Necessarly So " .

3. I Think the Lord Actually Said: |
|
"Stretch out thy rod and water the land of Egypt."
(But no, I have no idea what's wrong with the chronology.)

If Moses and Aaron turned all the water in Egypt to blood, what did the magicians turn to blood? Blood?

5. If you look at verse 24 |

It appears that there was water other than that that was turned:
24 And all the Egyptians dug along the Nile to get drinking water, because they could not drink the water of the river.
My thinking is that, while even the water in the buckets and jars turned to blood, it was only the water that was taken from those particular streams that was turned to blood.
On edit, also, looking at verse 19, it looks like Moses might have been required to do this over each body of water. I suppose it is possible that both he and the others were turning different bodies of water at the same time.

6. Dude, literalism is for fundies. |

Exodus is a cool story. Are you going to ask where all the frogs came from next? Or who exactly Cain and Abel married, since they were the only children of Adam and Eve?

7. Of course that would mean that Cain and Abel "did it" with Eve... |
|
That would be the Genesis of the term "Mother Fucker". It would also explain why we're so fucked up... it's the inbreeding, stupid!
One more:
That's why they didn't try OJ in "bible land"... all the DNA's the same!
