Poll question: Is Your Cat Declawed?
Mine is.

Wasn't my choice, the parents decided to do it when she was still a kitten.

3. Nope.
*sigh* But after seeing my new curtains with claw holes and a tear this morning...

I do try to keep them clipped, but obviously I have been slacking here lately.

5. Hell, no. That's inhumane.
We have five cats, all but the mom have been indoors exclusively. They have their own "furniture" to sharpen their claws on and they know which ones to use. We also have many of the cardboard type.

After 11 years we have had no problems to speak of.

10. We have leather furniture and 3 cats.
They never touch anything but their cardboard catnip scratchers, trees, logs and the legs of the kitchen chairs that have rough upholstery and look just like a scratch post. But no damage to anything else, and the all have claws intact. Now the dog, on the other hand, is much more destructive.

13. Mine is only front declawed and the couch still has scratches.
He doesn't scratch it on purpose, but he's only a year old and very energetic.

21. currently, none of my four are declawed, unless
you count that the sixth toe on Tommy's left front foot had to be declawed due to a nasty infection that would not heal, and a claw that tried to regrow down into the foot pad. He does not miss that 6th claw...you should see his feet when they are all spread out! Man does he have a set of stickers! I have to keep him trimmed regularly.

the other four are very good, and don't mess with much of anything except the log in the fireplace(placed there for them) and the trees outside.

In the past I have had declawed cats. When we were moving from Indiana to Texas, we had our two cats declawed because we knew it would make it much easier to find a house to rent if they were.

Well lo and behold, the cranky bitchy one turned into the most loving little sweet thing ..she still loved to run up and slug you in the leg but since she was no longer drawing blood, we quit yelling at her and realized she wanted to play tag. She became my best snuggle buddy!

One successive cat was declawed because we thought she needed to be since the others were..we did not want her to hurt them.

Since then, none of our cats have been declawed. i would not have done it to begin with had we not been in the moving circumstance

Kitty did not appear to be in any pain after 24 hours. She lived to be 17. And she was the BOSS CAT OF THE HOUSE! No teeth the last 2 years, very tiny, no claws and she bossed those other cats around something terrible!!!

9. No. We had a big
problem with our 2 cats clawing the furniture so we got some of those round cardboard disc's and put catnip on the underside of it. They started using it immediately.

I wouldn't do that to my little furry buddies.

16. My kitty came from the pound already declawed
and honestly, I'm glad she is. The way my dog and cat play (boxing each other in the face area with their paws), the dog would be blind by now. She's an indoor cat, so it's not a big deal.

17. No.
We've had 8 cats since we married. Up to four at a time. We have only had damage to two pieces of furniture, minor, and no damage to drapes, rugs, or walls. So, we have had luck training the scratching out of them, to a great degree.

I consider declawing like any other unnecessary surgery. So, i don't go for it. Neither does my wife.

18. Advice to new cat owners who have declawed cats....
...if they are declawed, be sure to not let them go outside. They would be at a disadvantage to other animals who aren't declawed.

19. The kitten's parents decided that together?
Not that I agree with the decision, but it is impressive that the Tom bothered himself with it. Kitten raising is usually left to the lady cat.

20. Absolutely not.
All six of my cats have their claws and will keep them. I may have the trashiest furniture in the city, but the trashy furniture is a trade off for my kitties happiness, not to mention safety should one of them get out.

23. No way!
I have four rescued cats and all four have their toes intact. I love my little babies and would never do that to them. They have one of those monster cat trees and they use it to sharpen their claws.
